The Jets aren't in a position to be able to spend that many assets for one year of a player that doesn't fill a need.

I honestly like the idea. I don't think think giving up assets for a giving away Schmidt is ideal. If you are concerned just buy hist contract out. Keep you 2026 2nd.

For Jacob Chychrun, I don't think the package is right. (I believe an offer of Winnipeg 2026 1st + Winnipeg 2025 3rd and Ville Heinola along with Iaofallo would be more in the correct range.
Maybe with a prospect such as Phillips Daoust coming back from Ottawa, so two contracts are going both ways.
(In addition Winnipeg would need to make sure they can lock Chychrun in for 8 years at a reasonable price.)
