Marner to OTT will help both teams

Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2024
Published: Apr. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Marner would play so much better on a line with Tkachuk to protect him ,I think the 2 would light it up.
This way the major parts are 1 year out and would have to work out a contract extension for this to work for both teams.
Makes TML a much deeper team with good physical players on each line also capable of scoring.
Takes a big weight off Rielly to not be the only offensive defence !
Joseph is a solid Knies type player who is young!

I don't think Marner -> Ottawa really makes sense for Ottawa but like, yeah I could certainly stomach that trade price if it had to happen

I hope it could work if Marner just accepts less $ to play with Tkachuk realising they could tear it up.
I honestly want to see Canadian teams do better in general because as a TML I have to watch some team after the 1st round , lol while holding back tears lol.

Delusional but not surprised.

The Sens arent trying to move him. He’s a middle 6 speedy 2 way winger who makes less than 3 mill and was on a 40pt pace

They were... Where Briere told them that it would cost a 1st to move him...

Every single left winger TML had was a middle 6 by those terms then including Bertuzzi who makes 2.5 M more!

again, he went 30+ games with 1 goal and still finished miles ahead of Joseph!

He almost had as many points as Nic Robertson, despite playing 20 more games

You do realize Bert when 30+ games with 1 goals right? It's not an accomplishment to have 10 less points than a guy who can't score

And 15 of his points were from a hot streak, where besides that, he's on a 30 point pace...

Most teams won't pay any value for that

what do you think "pace" means??? he had 35 points in 72 games. how can he be on pace for less than what he's already achieved in less than 82 games. what do you think pace is??????

I mean yeah it'd be great if he took a discount, but he won't. he's marner, that's not a thing he's gonna do

I said, if you take away his hot streak to start the year, he would be on pace for 30 points, right along his career averages...

1st of all Bertuzzi does this every year since he started and do nothing till almost half way through season , never should have been signed even at 3m!
And Robertson is a turn over machine that is not physical at all and that is why he was never played more!

Excuses, excuses... All this to defend a bottom 6 player...

Bertuzzi doesn't do that every year... If he did, he would never have stayed in the NHL, nor be anywhere near an all star caliber player...

And Joseph is also turnover machine... So keep going

How funny...

What's next? People should trade a 1st for Tank, 2 1sts for ADB, now it's a 2nd for Joseph...

They wanted a first to take him after the 22-23 season because they knew we had no cap for Pinto, and Joseph had a mediocre year. After the recent season he just had his value has went up drastically.

Joseph is our single best penalty killer - we aren't looking to move him at all but if we were it would realistically cost a 2nd round pick

Yes he is... No other team's trying to acquire Joseph

3 teams in 11 years...

1 was via trade and the another via Free Agency where the team that traded for him offered him a big contract that he turned down...

LOL... Keep trolling Leafs fans

Joseph had half as many points in a 1/3 less games... Including not having a hot streak to start the year off... His value isn't up drastically or OTT would have dealt him

Don't defend Joseph too him he is ignorant , there are several reasons I made the trade I did he just does not see the big picture I did!
Joseph would be a great add and agree on value approx a 2nd at least.

We are literally not trying to trade him which is why he isn't moved tears of joy Joseph on a line with Matthews would've out produced Bertuzzi easily this season.

It could only work for Ottawa if Norris was involved, and I don't see Toronto taking that risk.

Plus he can kill penalties he is a very versatile player .
This is a great trade from TML side , Leaf fans may not see it but it would be OTT wanting more or offering less.

I think marner may have to come to reality and accept more like a Nylander contract at 11 or 11.5 to get signed.

Most reports have stated after both contracts were sign that the leafs have a hard cap now to focus on Marner. Meaning 12.5 max but most predict he will be around 11.5 to 12. Considering the cap going up to about 90 million. It actually makes sense. Most people on here forget that players salaries increase with cap increases because they focus on cap percentages. Matthews signed at a 15% percent hit with expectation for the percentage to be about 14.7 when Marner signs. Marner will not command close to 15% but 13 % makes sense that's 12 million and most experts say Marner is getting that guaranteed as he every year without injury is at a ppg pace of over 100 points. He is the leafs leading ppg players in total playoff games amongst the core. The same said defenseman that everyone wants us to sign will want between 8 and 10% percentage cap hit. Thats why Hanifin signed his deal with Vegas. You are looking at around 7 million on the open market. Cap percentage is the better idea for what players will sign.
