It’s good that you forgot to but the Vlasic trade in. Saves the trouble of telling you to forget about it.

Guhle will get more. I hope he doesn't, but he's has more offensive potential than Vlasic.

My hope is MTL extends Guhle this offseason at somewhere around $5.5mil for 6 years. Any longer (having to buy more UFA years) and the cap hit will likely start pushing close to $7mil aav.

Anything more than 6 x $6mil aav, and it'll start getting a little too rich

He's talking about the contract extension....

But just to play along... Guhle > Vlasic

I see it now, not sure why I didn’t before.

I mean he's clearly talking about contracts and Guhle probably has a higher ceiling than Vlasic...

I don’t know how much most Habs fans watch Blackhawks games, but Vlasic is really, really good.

I'm not a Habs fan and not really criticizing Vlasic. I just think Guhle has a higher ceiling.

No one is saying he isn't. And as over-analyzed as Habs players are, Guhle is also really, really good.

Vlasic and Guhle are different types of players too:

Vlasic is very mobile for his size, but he certainly falls in the (very good) stay-at-home category of defensemen. Slight criticism for Vlasic is that he isn't very physical for his size.

Guhle, although not as big as Vlasic, is a far more physical player, a better skater, and has more offensive potential. Fits in the "two-way" Dman category way more than Vlasic. Slight criticism for Guhle is he racks up minor injuries like crazy. Really needs to find a way to be consistently healthy.

I agree, but he’s also younger, more unproven, and has more internal competition for what kind of role he can potentially carve out for himself. That deal above could definitely make sense for both sides. But personally, I’d rather see the 8 year $5.2375mm cap hit deal I proposed in my other post. The 3 year Drysdale bridge, 2 x $2.3mm + $6mm his last RFA year and 4 x $7.25mm his first four UFA years.

I agree with all of this. Higher ceiling, but younger, more unproven, and less certain as to what he’ll become.
I’m a believer though, so I’d bet on him.
