Sorry if this info is posted elsewhere but I couldn't find answer. I'm a Blue Jackets fan and am curious about Laine's case although it obviously can affect other teams in similar situations.

I am under the impression that the program does not automatically qualify for LTIR but under certain circumstances it can be used.

If there is a definitive answer regarding this could someone post a link.

Based on what I remember when Spencer Knight when into the assistance program that yes, players in the program are treated as being on LTIR.
