It wasn't. Despite beliefs on this website, the Canes front office loves KK. He was supposed to replace Staal, but Rod threw a tantrum. It's why Rod doesn't have a contract and Staal's buyout is super cheap

When KK signed the offersheet, he got a signing bonus of $20.

It also just happened to be Aho's jersey number.

Hmm ...

Lol byfield isn't worth 9.5. Delusional

That's what it will take, according to Godin and Basu.

If you actually listened to the podcast and not just got a few twitter quotes.
They suggested the idea but both said it would never work as the Habs would have to drastically overpay and the Kings would match any offer for a player they absolutely need.

But hey why not just take everything in hyperbole, serious as cancer, this is a serious place after all with real GM'ing.

Ah. The Kings would probably still match that.

If any high-profile pundit in NHL hockey suggests something outrageous about a trade, signing or offersheet and there are some juicy details, I make an AGM about it.

And then I watch comments like your's come in.

It's how I roll ...

And honestly, I think the Kings would not match.

At least one of those two 1sts from the Habs will probably be top 10 and the Habs would be stuck with Byfield at 9.5 million x 5.

Then they would proceed to offer-sheet Barron, Guhle, Slafkovsky or whomever else they can get their hands on. .

It also had an ending number of 15 on the salary, KK's number in Montreal, and those two combined create 35, Aho's draft position. But also, Carolina wanted the player.

Offersheeting KK was done as a means of responding to the offersheet on Aho.

If the Canes did nothing about the offersheet on Aho, it would make them look weak and set a bad precedent.

Instead they have a 5M cap hit for 6 more years for a guy they're making a healthy scratch? But of course that's so much better than looking weak in the media
