Can't see Seattle trading Larsson.

They're quite happy with their D core.

And they're certainly not retaining 2 mil on him next season.

He's already playing on a bargain contract.

He's not a rental.

Typical CFACGM Leafs fan not wanting to pay for retention.

I don't know why any team would want Peeke?

So we pay more for Peeke whom on one of the worst teams is a constant healthy scratch over Lyubushkin whom atleast played most games on one of the worst teams? Really? And people thought we overpaid for the Boosh!

1. Peeke is a nice bottom-pairing aggressive defenseman however he is not capable of a top-4 role.
2. Massive overpay for Adam Larsson: This reputation as a top-4 DFD would have worked 4-5 years ago, but he's gone downhill. If Larsson is so good I wonder why SEA are struggling for a playoff spot; surely it has to be from something...

Peeke could be a good depth D for us but as a cap dump. Peeke has rarely played with worse stats than the Boosh. So to trade more for Peeke is non sensible. As for Larsson, sadly it would take a deal like this or more as Francis is currently not willing to trade Larsson. But I agree, his trade is an overpay as well.

Even though I don't believe Larsson is top-4 quality, I can't help but applaud teams like SEA and MTL; the definition of overselling your players (not a diss, because if they can fetch first rounders I'd truly be jealous). Example? When MTL told everyone in the league that Ben Chiarot was a top-4 DFD when in reality he was a top-6 TWD that could hit and cross-check: When that deal between FLA broke out I couldn't help but admire the absolute fleece by MTL. In my honest opinion, the market for a RHDFD for TOR is gone; Tanev was the only candidate and he's in DAL. At this point, TOR should just stack up on depth given their cap situation, available players, and assets to trade.

So many Leafs fans are fascinated with other teams Dmen, especially RHD. Dunn is probably the Kraken's best Dmen, but they next three Oleisak, Larsson and Borgen seem to be such difference makers to Leaf fans, they willingly to give up so much for them.
Look at the trade posted, the difference between Larsson and Liljegren sure isn't Robertson, Niemela, a first and third.
Never mind wanting Peeke, and expect him to be an upgrade over any Leafs

I agree. The only trades I am willing to trade firsts for (despite other posts I have made as ideas) are for young players with great potential already on term and in the nhl. Top 1 I can think of is Chychrun but he is left handed and I can only imagine what Ottawa wants for him. Tanev was a good idea but not a needle mover. The best moves are depth moves and let our best players play it out. Most winning teams apply this model. Tampa (goodrow and Coleman were third liners) Pittsburgh (hainsey), Vegas (
Barbashev) limited moves to help the needle but make the starts do the work. (Colorado forgot their deadline move was similar)
Last year while yes O'Reilly was helpful was an overpay. McCabe has worked out in the long run it looks like thanks to the term. Schenn is the type of deadline move that works.

100% agree. I understand we are desperate for a top-4 RHD but the truth is there aren't any that could be acquired without damaging the entire structure of our roster and collection - or lack thereof- of picks. The main source of this problem is our cap space.

Cap space and the fact that Dubas overspent on deadlines. I agree with his ideals but is deviation to them hurt us. Foligno, Orielly, Marleau, etc ...) that limited our available draft picks needed in future years. Thankfully he was quick to somewhat help, Sandin, Engvall etc..
