Description
I really like the fit off Eberle on Mika's RW, I think he brings just the right possession and scoring metrics, Wennberg is included to replace Chytil at 3C. He won't be the better than Chytil but he's good defensively and in combination with Kakko and Cuylle can give us a very good grindy 3rd line.

Since we're trading away Jones I added Dermott at the deadline, just to be a cheap, flexible 7D who can jump in if we get an injury.

Brodzinski >>>> Wennberg.

Eberle's a good target though, Dermott is pretty solid too, but Jones is a better player.

No need to deal Jones or a 1st though, a 2nd for Eberle is fine.

There's not a C on the market that's better than Brodz, just go get Roslovic for a 4th for some insurance.

Yeah that's fair about Brodz, idk if he's a better player than Wennberg but he's definitely a great fit on that 3rd line. Although I don't think Seattle would be satisfied with just a 2nd for Eberle I really feel like we'll need to add Jones or another prospect in to sweeten the pot.

Jones is not a throw in. He honestly should be playing every day. If you want to put in someone like Korczak or Lamb that's fine that's fine, but Jones is basically worth a 2nd rounder on his own.

I mean... I feel like you're overestimating Jones quite a bit. He's 23 and his game hasn't really progressed all that much, he may seem sweet to the Rangers but to other teams I doubt they'd be willing to spend a 2nd to get him.

I can't tell if you're saying 23 is old for a defenseman. I also can't tell if you watch the team, since he looks like the 3rd best Dman on the team every time he plays...

Though if you mean by "hasn't progressed all that much" you're referring to his playing time, In that regard I agree.

I mean sure he's had a some good games and some good looks all around but he's definitely not been the 3rd best dman on the team every time he's played. He's been our 7D for like 3 years now and has barely improved his point production and hasn't earned the coach's trust for more playing time. If you wanna fault the Rangers for this then that's fair but it's their responsibility to properly manage their assets and if they're not getting good value out of him then why would other teams overpay for him.

Curious you're referring to his point production since he's currently 2nd behind Fox in terms of point rate among Ranger Dmen...

He has 5 points in 17 games this season that's not very impressive. He is also not 2nd behind Fox. Trouba, Miller, and Gus all have scored more points per game than him.

I'll help you with a little math here bud. He's scoring a point every 44 minutes he's on the ice at even strength....

That's top 25 in the league rate, and he's doing that with a lot of 4L F's who provide no offense.

No matter how you cut it, no team is gonna be that impressed by a player who only has 5 points and who's only played 17 games in and out of the lineup this season.

I'm not sure what you mean how you cut it...

Do you think GM's are going by points/game in terms of their evaluations?

That would be like thinking your heart surgeon is going on Web MD for advice...

I think GMs would see that he's been in and out of the lineup and hasn't been able to win the trust of the coach. Do you seriously think a sample size of 17 in and out games where he played inconsistently is enough to convince a GM to pay a 2nd?

Uh yeah you don't remember Lias Andersson getting a 2nd after scoring 1 point in 17 points playing very sporadically?

Lias Andersson was a 7th overall pick who was able to fetch that much because of his draft position prestige. Jones is more removed from his draft year compares to Andersson when he got traded and he doesn't have the draft position to hype up his perceived ceiling.
