I thought that was said on the episode of 32 Thoughts right after Markstrom to NJ didn't happen. I shouldn't say Fitz offered it since I am not in the room with any of these guys, but that's what I thought the offer was. Not familiar with Devils prospects to know if they have other 1st prospect equivalents (obviously not Nemec, Hughes) but I would think Markstrom would demand more than a 1st (pick or Holtz) and closer to a 1st + 1st value. Devils may still not make the trade but this would be considering NJ thinks if they get a goalie they could make a playoff push and the Flames have a shot at the wildcard in the west even after they trade away all their top players but if they trade Markstrom they would have no shot. Given that I think they would value Markstrom more than Anaheim values Gibson for example which would lead NJ to "overpay" on Markstrom value.
I am just going by what was reported: Holtz for Markstrom...with retention and cost of retention unknown.
That part seemed to be picked up in a couple of places.
From NJD perspective, it was notable to see Holtz included (even hard to believe at first).
We have been asked often about him, and it always seems to be stories of GMs asking for Holtz and Fitzy saying, no way.
Our other young players/prospects are the top guys that are not trade options (Nemec, Luke, Mercer).
After Holtz, the best two are Seamus Casey (RHD in NCAA) and Arseni Gritsyuk (LW in KHL)
After that, its probably Topias Vilen (LHD in AHL), Graeme Clarke (RW in AHL), Leeni Hameenaho (RW in Liiga).
It appears most of the talk has moved to Saros now.
Brunnete was Asst coach here last year...so he knows our guys.
He liked Holtz a lot...and spent a lot of time working with him one-on-one.
