Every time you make an AGM and you propose a trade to a specific team, you will get roasted by that team's fanbase every single time.

It doesn't matter how beneficial it is to that team.

It isn't good enough.

Always remember that from their perspective, their players and prospects will always be far better than your's (i.e. endowment effect).

It's the nature of the beast.

Alright then.

So ...

What if that team just decided they will make no trades with anybody whatsoever ?

Could that team still win the Cup ?

Let me know your thoughts.

Will need to see if its done before but I believe a team can win the cup without making trades

BUT

This would take extremely good drafting, free agent signings, and developing along with a good chunk of lady luck

I’m going to go with no because for a team to do so, they would need good drafting, free agents signings, an organization with a lot of depth, good injury luck, the list goes on, simply put, you’d need so many things to go right for the need to do a trade not arise that it’s close to impossible

That team would need to be good at drafting and be a beloved FA landing spot

I'm gonna say yeah just because for example whenever a team wins the Cup of they keep the exact same team as when they won it all I think they'd be a good bet to win it all again...why not since they've already done it once?

Sometimes, players leave the cup winning team to go get paid somewhere else.

If they demanded a raise and you gave them what they wanted, it would eat up whatever amount of cap space you have left to spend on other players.

Yeah I know but the question was could a team win the Stanley Cup without making any trades and I think it's at least possible if everyone on the team was locked in beforehand or if everyone is the team didn't demand raises etc...

Im sure they could, any team good enough to make the playoffs can win if they get hot at the right time - Florida almost did it last year (Technically they traded for Givani Smith mid-season but he only played 5:25 in 1 playoff game and hardly had an impact). But why would a contending team not want to add at the deadline? I think if you have a shot at a cup then you should be buying at the deadline every single year. It doesnt have to be a huge trade to bring in the top rental, but every contender should at least give up some mid round picks to shore up their depth. Every year there are guys like Namestnikov, Cogliano, Domi, Bonino, Gustafsson, etc. available for a 4th round pick or less

Do you meant at deadline?

Blues 2019 maybe...

ROR was off-season acquisition.

I believe they traded for MDZ though in Feb so that technically counts

I meant over the course of the year.

(e.g. from when they ended their 2023 playoff run to the 2024 Trade Deadline)

Okay, so zero additions in off-season, zero additions in-season….

Maybe Montreal 1955-60. They sold off a few pieces, but added to roster from within. Gotta be a year or two in there they didn’t add.
