If ARI was willing to eat 50% of that deal and only charge a 4th and 5th and Leafs made another move for the blue line before hand (Tanev) I wouldnt mind it

Lybushkin on the 3rd pairing would be good imo. He brings everything they need and can definitely help the PK.

Lybushkin I was after but now meh. He had a stretch with Rielly once upon a time but not what they need to prioritize getting

And Leafs PK has been much better as of late 18/19 killed (80% OA rn) that aint bad especially with the gutted Dcore

They had him on the top pairing last time, the 3rd pairing he would be very effective. Plus he can bring some physicality they lack on the backend.

The need for Lybushkin kind of diminished there

Like Lybushkin's one quality is net front defense but if you get Tanev he aint needed like if Tanev is moved elsewhere you can explore but rn priority needs to be for better things

The leafs only need 1 defender and it ain’t either of them that’s for sure can guarantee that I wouldn’t spend a 7th on either lol

I argue they need two.

One to play in the top 4 and one to either rotate with Gio or make Gio #7

As while I have all the respect for Gio a 40 year old being in the full time playoff lineup may not be ideal

If you switch Lylbushkin with dumba you have a physical guy on every pairing. Like you say the net presence in the playoffs needs to be more than one guy. Idk about Tanev but Lyubuskin clears the front of the net, the guys they have right now do their best to box out guys but they don't clear guys. The big wingers the leafs are going to meet in the playoffs, them having Tanev, McCabe and Lyubuskin would go along way for success.

Timmins is playing well enough to be number 6 sit gio and we’ll be fine with 1, I hope the leafs don’t waste assets on two at least our prospect pool is definitely lacking

Well I think he’d be fine and you disagree that’s fine but he has been playing great his advanced metrics are very good

For sheltered third pair mins sure hes fine but he was doing better last year and wasnt in the playoff roster was number 9 in the end

Hes been good but not as good as last year so probs same will occur

Dumba is better than Lagesson, Benoit, Lajoie, and TImmons so he definitely moves the needle. Leafs need a steady NHL caliber dman that can make a simple first pass. Dumba can do that for sure. He is an expiring UFA so the rental price wont be much.
