NJD decline, a GM would be dumber than chiarelli to trade anything more than a 2nd for any G, they are way to unpredictable to have anywhere near the value that other position have

Miller and Daws both stink. Not sure why they're making 2m (or on the team). Idk how well Hanifin would age with that contract, but it's a damn good team

Miller currently has a 65% 5v5 xGoals share in an albeit small sample size

Devils aren't paying above market value so you can go sign top tier UFAs

And? He's played 5 games and has struggled to get into the Devils lineup.

Stink was a bit harsh on my end, but he's a 6-7th defenseman that will likely get ~1m next year

Ullmark is a better than the alternatives that would solve NJD's goaltending woes

Didn't realize that, my b

Still don't think he's worth all that much in the open market

And we'll take him at a discount so you can go solve your top 6 center woes. We aren't paying above market value tho.

No top 6 center woes here - Bruins have plenty of cap space this offseason without dealing Ullmark to add in free agency. I don't think a non-lottery first round pick for a Vezina winner playing at a high-level is above market value.... Daws is nothing but a filler

A late 1st for an established goalie is pretty much ok though

Other than the lack of a top 6 center?

Zacha and Poitras will be just fine - can always add Lindholm in FA.

Bruins remain near top of the league despite lack of a "top 6 center"

Lehner after a 3rd place vezina season went for a 2nd and 5th with double retention taking him down to 1 mill
Fleury after winning the vezina the previous year went for a 2nd at 3.5 million.

Zacha and Poitras are not top 6 Cs.

That 9 mill UFA lindholm contract makes things tight and gets UGLY long term.

Fleury was also 36 years old at the time and it was originally a conditional first that turned to a 2nd...

Fleury also had a decade long pedigree of elite play across multiple teams. And it was a conditional 2nd that could have turned into a late 1st.

Poitras will be a top 6 center - he is 19 years old and playing very well in the NHL. Zacha has been great since coming over from NJ and is on pace to finish with 65 points. Coyle has also been playing great hockey.

I would not offer Lindhom 8.75 AAV... max should be 8.25 and pivot elsewhere if he does not accept.

Sounds like you'll be pivoting elsewhere because the UFA Center market is expensive.

Pencilling a guy in as a top 6 C off a 20 game sample size certainly is bold

Zacha is a winger and a passenger. Somehow manages to have a sub 50% xGoals share playing beside Marchand and Pastrnak

It was a conditional first: "Marc-Andre Fleury was traded to the Minnesota Wild by the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday for a conditional first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft." (Source NHL.com)

Ullmark has been better than Fleury was in Vegas and has a lot more left in the tank. Bruins will be more than happy to keep Ullmark - price starts at a first .

Fluery won a vezina and had 2 other top 5 vezina finishes in vegas.

Fleury was 35 and on a cap constrained team

Lerner was also traded for a first round pick before his bipolar disposer and alcohol issues forced Buffalo to non tender him. There’s a lot there for you to use him as a cap comparable. You should try to acquire him and see how that goes. He would be an improvement.

From my perspective, Boston should be looking towards other teams if they want to trade Ullmark than a legitimate contender in the same division whose primary weakness is goalie.

The good news is with more cap room available this offseason, there should be plenty of takers now that the UFA goalie market is particularly weak.

If not, keep him. Its $5m off the books in two years that should pay for a good portion of the major free agent acquisition we make this offseason.

I’d say a GM would be pretty idiotic to go with NJ’s current goaltending situation considering the talent on the team. It’s basically like putting crappy wheels that don’t fit on a Ferrari and wondering why you have mediocre performances.
