People need to understand he's a McDavid level asset.

No other player of his caliber has a contract like his.

21 year old top 5C making 8x8.

Vancouver doesn't trade Hughes for that.

He's worth more than McDavid. The difference between their cap hits is more than Toffoli costs, and Hughes has 4 years left after McDavid expires

I wouldn't trade Jack straight up for anyone....but "worth more than McDavid" is a tough line for me to cross... too hard to quantify (and too likely to ire our friends up north).

3. MacKinnon or another top 10 player with term

Bedard over Hughes is interesting call. 4-years younger and on ELC…so I get it. But think he needs one season to prove up to that value.

I'd rather have hughes.

Bedard probably gonna be worth about 8 mill this year, then optimistically you're looking at 10-12 mill the next 2. And the 2nd contract he'll get even on a 4 year bridge will be massive with the cap going up, probably upwards of 10 mill with that prodduction estimate.

I'd put Hughes value at around 14-15 mill rn, going up slightly as he reaches his prime. I think hughes provides more surplus value over his 7 controlled years than Bedard will over 3 ELC+4RFA years

No way Bedard gets a bridge. GMs these days would rather get the 8 year contract right away

He realistically won't get a bridge deal but It's just to compare the term of control. It wouldn't be as genuine to say that he's gonna be making like 13-15 mill while jack still makes 8, bc jack is gonna make more once his contract expires compared to the last 4 years of bedards presumed 8 year deal
