I like Timmins always have and wouldn’t mind it at all but I think the FO absolutely loves MacDermid being able to fill 2 bench spots in the 7D/13F spot in addition I think they have every intention of giving Makinski an extended chance. Heiden is a nice fill but you know Kovalenko is going to be given a roster spot when the KHL season and because of that and wanting to have the ability to make a move potentially a big one at the TDL they are going to give OO and/or Foudy a long look in the bottom 6. But what do I know🤷🏻‍♂️

Just make the Timmins-trade happen already, we know that Manson will get hurt sooner or later and proper quality depth will be needed. I was really sad when we lost him, he played really well when healthy for us. This is a great way to get him back basically for free.

I’ll never understand the front office’s fascination with MacDermid. I feel like you could take any serviceable 6/7 defenseman and they could play 4th line minutes without being a disaster.

They hated being called "soft". That really is it.

I think Malinski is going to get a long look as well. Frankly, if we sign a Heinen or someone like that I would FULLY expect them to be dumped at the TDL in preparation for Kovalenko.

I think that was part of it, but they know they need a 13F and 7D man during the season because of sickness and minor injuries and to have a guy to throw out there willing to throw down against certain teams (doubly so with Landy out for the season). On top of that a guy who fits into the locker room, fills two spots, and is cheap is all bonuses.

Realistically though, is he a useful player when he’s bad at both positions?

Compare Brad Hunt or Jack Johnson to MacDermid. Hunt and JJ are vastly better defensemen. MacDermid is a replacement level forward. I’d argue you’re better off just playing Hunt/JJ 8 mins at 12F in a pinch rather than having MacDermid be a liability in all positions.

Of course, there’s a human element here: a player probably isn’t thrilled to be playing out of their natural position. But if that’s what it takes to stay in the NHL, I’m sure a lot of guys would.

I don’t disagree with that at all but let’s face it the Avs are going to roll him at the spot
