Nate: I think a lot of teams got caught in that they had to "lock up" best players. Maybe there was the expectation that the cap was going to rise considerably every year. A lot of mistakes were made be lot of teams. Even last year the Panthers felt obliged to lock up Ekblad long term at 7.5m per. We'll see how that plays out.

Yeah I know, but I just look at it as they knew Jake/G were going to be 1C/1RW tandem for years and instead of locking them up to better contracts when they had leverage they let it go until they were UFAs by bridging them.
