Rod hates playing D men on their off side. Brodie is another LHD, Carolina already have Skjei, Slavin and Orlov. If it was Skjei in the deal, it's a lot different. But this leaves the right side of that D core in a real bad state. No

If it was Skjei instead of Pesce would you do it?

Probably, truthfully. It doesn't leave the D core in a complete mess on one side

Brodie has always played RD. Its not like he gets moved there because of a log jam

He's a LHD and Rod hates playing D men on their offside... he's a great D man, but it doesn't work

He is a left shot but he is a RD....going all the way back to CGY.

I get the fact that Rod may not like most Dmen playing their offside but when a Dman always plays his off side, it should be ok

Key word is should be. De Haan has played both sides his entire career, would not play on the right under Rod. Pesce can play on the left, Rod refused to do it even when the only healthy D men on the team were righties. The fact he's left handed means Rod will want him on the left. It makes puck movement and shooting from the point a lot easier and thats what his entire system is built on

Brodie is actually a better RD than LD even though he is left shot.
