If lafreniere gets traded, rangers looking for immediate help, retained pieces that fills holes for the immediate window. First can be flipped for rentals, the rest doesn’t overly fit.

That's too much for Lafrenière the Rangers are stuck they can't pay Lafrenière and Miller there true value without being stuck at the cap selling.

both sides make this trade IMO. If Lafreniere can become even a 60 pt player at best, your entire team is basically completely set up for the future with Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Lafreniere, Newhook, Slaf at forwards. Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Barron, Reinbacher, Mailloux at defence. Only thing needed is a goalie which will be easy. Habs will win a cup with the path they're taking. They will probably get a top 15 pick this year too.

Flyers are rebuilding, so why would they trade a 1st for two guys in their mid 20s that will play bottom six roles? Rebuilders don't tend to trade 1st rounders.

So you make the case for MTL... what on earth does NYR gain from this?

You can only retain on 3 contracts at once, so that invalidates this already. NYR definitely says no regardless.

I could see Lafreniere bridging but I don't see why Miller would at all. He put up great numbers last year and took on a huge responsibility on the backend with great success. He should be looking to get an 8Mx8 kinda deal, if not more.

You're trading a guy who won't get many top 6 minutes, still has some decent value from being 1st overall, and could probably be successfully offer sheeted for a 2nd rounder in return. In return you're getting a bottom 6 guy who can help the team this year in Armia, a potentially good NHL forward in Mesar, and possibly a pick as high as around 15th since Calgary is trash now. Kandre Miller deserves around 4 mill aav and when he is signed pretty much any team can swoop in and pickup Laf for a 2nd, Montreal is doing NYR a favour here IMO.

He can get top 6 minutes if he earns it on NYR... the very ironic part about all of this is two things: he is put on the RW on this team, which he for whatever reason hasn't been able to figure out the last two years, but if he does, can easily play in the top 6 for NYR. And even if you do sign Miller to 4million, NYR can easily match the 2.75mil that MTL is giving him here (NYR currently has 7.7million cap space with a 19 man roster, pre-signing Miller and Laffy to get them to 21). So it makes no sense all around. If Laffy would sign for 2.75mil without the threat of an offer sheet, why would this trade take place? NYR already have plenty of Armia players. You'd have to give a top 6 player at a minimum to get him right now

CGY also isn't trash, last year is an anomaly from a terrible coach to player relationship. That pick is two seasons from now, they have too many very good players signed long term to not turn it around, even if they do have to swap Lindholm and Hanifin out.

His defensive game needs improvement still before you could even pay him 6M. Stop basing wages off of goals and assists, it’s not that simple lol. If it was, Caulfield would be making 12M with his 60 goal rate last year. He got maxed because MTL has the cap space. NYR has always been a bridge organization. The only exception was Fox who also took a discount for max term

Too much going on. Max 1 minor deal before the season begins. Concentrate the fantasy on 2024-25 season. You have 4 retained contracts which isnt in the CBA as well.

The Calgary pick can go as high as pick depending on the Florida pick. It's likely to be in the teens though

So lets say Laf gets this contract signed here. That gives the Rangers about 4M to bridge Miller and still carry a 22 man roster.
