What has McLeod done to deserve $2M? There aren't any recent close comps for McLeod, but here are some guys who had similar GP and points at a similar age:

I've given McLeod 1.80%. Maybe it's a little low, but it's in the range.

Bouchard's closest comp is Dobson. He signed a 3 x $4M deal last summer. Byram just signed a 2 x $3.8M deal recently. Why would Bouchard get $4M on a 1 year deal?

Perhaps. Who are your contract comps for those two? I posted mine in comment #3 above.

Sure. And he has filed for arbitration, so maybe that goes through and he ends up with a 1 year deal. I don't think they take last year's deal into account in arbitration though... Bouchard doesn't have arbitration rights, so I don't know why people think he's going to get paid this summer. Holland is well known for being tight with RFA's who don't have arbitration rights.

Would it make more sense to get him on a two year deal so Hollland's not having to deal with him, Broberg and Holloway in the same offseason next year?

Edit: Want to add a couple of points.

If he somehow continues his playoff production into next season, and he's signed on a one year deal, he's going to soak up a good chunk of the cap increase the following year. At the same time Broberg and Holloway need new deals. Not a lot of money coming off the books in the near future either. Don't think they'd have to go as far as trying to move out Kane's money, but it might be tight. Have to take into consideration any potential cap overages from Brown too.

Honestly I don't think Holland is overly concerned about 24-25. Since he arrived in Edmonton his focus each summer has been to ice the best possible roster in October and figure out the following season next summer. And somehow it has worked out each summer, he's been able to improve the roster every year despite being super tight to the cap at all times.

And this procedure won't change this summer especially since he's going into the last year of his own contract, and due to his age I'd say there's a pretty good chance he won't be GM this time next year. Likely he moves up into the executive suite and one of the Assistant GM's (son Brad Holland, Steve Staois and Keith Gretzky) take over as GM.

In any case, neither Broberg nor Holloway will have arbitration rights, so I expect both to be back on cheap bridge deals.
