Typical " we just won the cup " deal, but we've seen a lot worse than this.
I don't think it'll hurt Vegas too much. Easy buyout next year.

In a vacuum, this isn't a bad signing. After all, he just won the Stanley Cup. However, the Golden Knights still need to sign one more forward and now they have very little cap room. Also, if he reverts to his regular season form, then they team could be in trouble. They should still make the playoffs, but it won't be as easy.

What forward do you suggest we get. we don’t really need anyone. Obviously a depth player or two but that’s really it. I would be fine if we ran it back again

I don't like the contract, but it would take real balls to walk away from Adin Hill after the performance he had in the cup run. This is a very similar situation to the one St.Louis had with Binnington, except that Binnington was in the system of St.Louis for many years prior to going on the run. He just hadn't proven himself to be an NHL goalie. Hill was only acquired this past season.

The free agent market for goalies is very bad this season. If Hill walks, Vegas would still have to acquire another NHL goalie to play with Thompson either through trade or free agency. So it isn't as if Hill costs 4.9M, he costs however much more the next most viable option would have cost. Let's say they get a stop gap like a Cam Talbot or James Reimer, that is still probably anywhere from 2-3 million on a 1 or 2 year term.

The absolute worst case scenario is that it doesn't work out and they have to buy him out, or trade him with retention. That is manageable. The term is short, so if it doesn't work out they are basically out of the contract right away. This isn't like the Murray signing that Ottawa made where they gave him 4 years. Even know Ottawa miraculously got out of most of Murray's cap hit at a very low cost, the original term came with such a high risk. 4 years like that is a ride or die commitment, where as 2 years is more of an experiment.

You only have 11 forwards. You're one injury for not having an NHL team. Granted, you do have about $2 million in cap space, so it's not a real panic, yet.
