Hey Community,

I am unfamiliar with the retained salary rules during trades, and hoping someone can easily clarify this.

If a team completed a trade in a previous season, where salary was retained, can those 2 teams complete another trade now to push the retained salary back onto the team that now owns him?

Example would be between Nashville and Edmonton. Nashville is retaining $250,000 of Ekholm's contract for the next 3 years. Could another trade be made where Edmonton now takes on Ekholm's full contract, in turn giving Nashville it's 'retention' spot back for future use?

Thanks for any clarification!

Nope, retention slots are permanent, you can’t trade retention
