I don't think it's a huge reach but I agree we'll likely regret passing on local stud Benson. This is what happens when management has been inept for a decade and never thought to draft defense in the past since you can sign and trade for past prime dmen.

I sure hope they don't spent 7 million dollars on Soucy and Gudas....

Neither are worth 3.5 mil a year. I'd be fine with Soucy for a few, but definitely not Gudas. Ride Myers out 1 more year, and Willander may very well be NHL ready in the 2024/2025 season. He potentially gets to play alongside Lane Hutson in Boston University so he will have some good experience when he makes the jump to playing with Hughes

This is 24-25 so Myers is out of the picture.

And Willander should be NHL ready by then. No point in overpaying for old and declining Gudas. There will be much better free agents next year

I don't get it....Benson would've a great pick for Vancouver, It's a week draft class for defensemen and they should've waited next year since it's much deeper.

Benson is a top 5 talent in this draft. Vancouver wasn't the only team to skip on him. I think he was easily BPA, however the Canucks must've thought that a smart, elite skating RHD with decent size was a better fit than a small skilled winger. I don't think the Canucks wanted to wait either. Great pick, not the best pick though. Benson was still better

Yup, all that nonsense last year from Alvin about the BPA...????

Maybe I'm crazy, but it makes more sense to me to reach for a right shot defenseman when you have the 15th pick in a weak draft, and then take the best best player available in the deepest draft of the decade.

Who would you rather have? Chesley and Benson or Lekkerimaki and Willander?
