without the big 4

Description
A fun, maybe unrealistic mapleleafs rebuild. They can recoop a lot of assets back for their big 4. They could almost be play-off contenders even after those trades

Arizona, Los Angeles, and Minnesota most definitely decline these deals.

Calgary is the only possibility of any of this craziness being reality

But then you realize that Calgary won't have the space to resign a ~10M winger and, as such, decline.

I don't think I'd do Kempe for Marner straight up.

I mean:
$10.9M - Marner x 2 years , 30 G, 69 A

$ 5.5M - Kempe x 3 years, 40 G, 26 A

I think LA arguably has the better contract here.

so what I see here is marner has more assists than kempe has points, hes also a selke level defender whos one of the best Pkers in the NHL

But Kempe doesn't "make the cap work" -- we're still at least $3.75 million short because Marner and McCabe aggregate $12.9 million (Clarke isn't counting against our cap total right now and Kempe, Arvidsson and Byfield add up to about $10.2 million and we need to replace one of them on the main roster), so we don't have the cap space.

We keep telling you that Marner to Los Angeles is virtually a mathematical impossibility, but you never listen.

Chances of re-signing Kempe when his contract expires: over 75%
Chances of re-signing Kempe when his contract expires at under $10 million: over 75%
Chances of re-signing Marner when his contract expires at any price: zero

What you see here is a player whom we won't have on the roster after 2024-2025. That's something you continually fail to factor into the value equation. The issue isn't trading for Marner for one season vs. trading for Kempe for one season.

I think we have to attribute those points that he also played 40% of the time that Matthews.

This isn't a knock on Marner, he is a Selke level talent, I believe LA has decent selke level talent between Kopitar and Danault, but for LA a 40 goal scorer on a contract under $6M for the next 3 years isn't an easy find.

Kings need cap space, so I don't see why they'd go for Marner. Now if Matthews is available next season, that's a different story.

I mean, as @tryger mentioned, contracts add value just as much as production does. It’s not far fetched to think some teams may value Kempe more than Marner in terms of a trade target.

This is why teams like Tampa are so willing to pay a premium on guys like Hagel. Marner’s 99 points don’t mean as much when he’s playing with replacement level players to make the cap work.

And as mentioned by @OldNYIfan, the Kings have no hope of keeping Marner after that contract, so they aren’t about to trade that for a 2 year rental.

As a Wild fan, i wouldn't trade Ek for Tavares one for one, especially once you look at the contracts.

wow not even going to respond to the trades. Does he know that his roster can only be 23. 30 players so what 7 players are going to the minors, and will they clear waivers?

AM is great/elite but AZ giving up ridiculous amount of talent (prolly over half future top 6) and more. Easy pass, as TML has shown a couple elite players doesnt win, a complete team (Vegas) does.
