Even to move back from 11-19, the bucks would have to eat at least 40 percent. It's that bad a contract. Without retention the hawks maybe send one of their 2nds back

Substitute the ‘Hawks’ own 2nd for TBL’s 1st?

But yeah, I like the idea. Has my stamp of approval. Both players have limited NTCs to navigate though.

Even if the return was 11th and OEL for a 2nd rounder Canucks take that.

You'd look to pay the entire 11th overall pick to move OEL with a little bit of retention.

every one is acting like chi is a dumpster fire for the next 4 yrs.
if bedard is gen talent anything like crosby 16 yrs in row after his rookie yr crosby and co. made playoffs
i see no reason why chi cant do same salary cap even the field massively.
i can see no reason for chi to do this. aside from the top 4 this year everything else is projection, hear the same thing every year great draft class yada yada yada cant miss well into 2nd round.
no one is giving a roster spot. when u have a talent like bedard and as much cap space as hawks do u dont tank again. u put the best u can out there with him..

Why does Vancouver have to give up so much and Columbus so little? OEL is at least a NHL defensemen still.

They might be the worst team this year and they'll at best be a bottom 8 in 24-25. It's better to get assets than splurge on free agents that could fail to mesh. Having to deal with those contracts for 1 year after Bedard extends isn't the end of the world.

Neither team is giving up close to enough to move those contracts but the reason Vancouver will need to give up more is simple math; Gudbranson has 3 x $4m left on his deal compared to OEL’s 4 x $7.26m. The more you want teams to take, the more you pay… not that complicated.

At the end of the day you could argue both of these guys are bottom pairing d-men at best which makes what they are being paid exorbitant, Gudbranson at least brings toughness which may be useful to the Hawks.
