See this time and again You aren't getting Alex for picks especially to a division rival.

Berggren + 2nd + 3rd

or

Kubalik + 2nd + 3rd

DeBrincat agrees to 8.0 x 7 years extension with Detroit

Sure, they would turn down getting a 25 y/o top line forward for a mid 1st and a 2nd tears of joy

This is an accurate price for DeBrincat. Not sure if Detroit does it for different reasons, but this is fair value.

No matter how hard you guys try to convince yourselves, this is not a fair price lol

Detroit takes this and run, don't kid yourselves

And this is coming from someone who values DeBrincat lower than most

Cat is coming off a down year and there’s not contract in place. Sure a trade likely comes with an extension but Ottawa traded for a 40 goal scorer with a 6.4M cap hit. They are trading away a 27 goal scorer with a 8+M cap hit, therefore his value isn’t as high as it was a year ago.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take Cat for this price, as I said this is his fair value after the down year and lack of contract certainty. But Cat wouldn’t be my 1st choice. I’d look at using those picks to get Connor, Keller, or Konecny first then Cat.

For this I agree and you're right. DeBrincat is for a team who lacks a goal scorer

Ottawa already had :

Norris and Stutzle as a 40+ goals scorer
Tkachuk and Batherson as 30+ goals scorers

Then Giroux, Pinto, Greig, etc

They didn't need DeBrincat (PP already stacked), they needed a top-4 D-man much earlier and have 2 middle six forwards instead of DeBrincat (Paul and Brown were PERFECT)

But yeah, a mid 1st and a 2nd is not a fair price for DeBrincat.

Again, Ottawa traded for a 41 goal scorer with a 6.4M cap hit. They are trading away a 27 goal scorer with an 8+M cap it. You tell me which of those 2 options is worth more in a trade?

I’d even throw in a 4th or low prospect, but you’re not getting a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd back for him.

A lot of context here... I'll copy what I wrote earlier :

"Keep in mind DeBrincat had to play with rookie Pinto as his center, a guy who had just missed a full season due to injury. DeBrincat would have produced more if Norris had been healthy. Both DeBrincat and Batherson suffered a lot from Norris injury, particularly defensively (offense comes from good defense). Pinto is good and will be great (will develop into a Danault type) but way too much responsibility for a rookie Center coming off a serious injury"

The problem you seem to have is valuing all 1st as equal value?

Yes Ottawa is NOT getting a 7th OA + 39th OA + 3rd back for him but why would they not get back a 1st + 2nd + 3rd?

The offer here was 17th OA + 2nd, which is VERY FAR from what they initially paid.

Agree to disagree. I don’t think Cat gets a 1,2,3 because I don’t think he is as valuable as he was 12 months ago.

Sure, we can always agree to disagree but I mean, value of players with a solid track record like DeBrincat don't tank overnight. It's maybe not 7th OA+ value but if he doesn't get 1+2+3, it would be quite shocking

I personally hope it's going to be a hockey trade for 1 or 2 players

He got a 1,2,3 at his peak. Not only is he coming off a down year and with a more complicated contract situation, but Ottawa has no leverage in this situation.

Supply and demand, it will go for what someone is ready to pay for.

You also talk like he was passed his peak... down year or not he still got 66 pts playing with a rookie center who had just missed a full season

Agree on supply and demand. All it takes is 1 team.

But I don’t mean he’s past his peak as a player, he’s not. I just mean his value to date. Could it increase again, i think it will. But considering all of the circumstances, his value is lower. Has nothing to do with the actual player.
