Moving Up In The Draft

Created by: DirtyDangles
Team: 2023-24 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I still don't believe we move Hart but this is what I would want. All these packages of late 1sts and mid prospects wouldn't move the needle at all to get rid of a 24 year old who has 5 NHL seasons under his belt already.

Hmmm,

dont know.....I think I'd want more in almost all those deals if i'm Philly.

And then you still have Hayes/DeAngelo on the club with 10mil in cap space, I'd definitely do something with both of those

We have to realize that Hayes may not be going anywhere now. If both Bergeron and Krecji retire then MAYBE BOS would have some interest but I can't see many teams on his NTC list

Oh I agree, but I think with the pretty bad UFA crop this year, theres at least 2-3 other teams that would be interested in Hayes (with retention and with limited return). Certainly it depends on his NTC, but also means PHI may have alot more than 10 mil in cap space.

Its also about his comfort, his outlook on the rest of his career, etc....but I think theres some teams interested and the best UFA options are either going to be real high, or are not 2Cs (Compher is a good example). But some possible destinations, off the top of my head:

CBS has two premiere goalscorers (Laine and Gaudreau) and some good youth coming, but no playmaker, and while Hayes is not a 1C, look at the Assist stats voracek had with laine before his premature retirement, and have Boone Jenner, a 3C, playing 1C
COL has limited cap space, but need probably a 2C and 3C while they still have their window. For a meagre price? Sure.
BOS
CAR really suffered with Kotkanemi having to play 2C, and while he played/produced well for a while, he was a bit overmatched in playoffs
TOR would love to resign Ryan O'Reilly, but his UFA price might be high and cap is an issue, might work if TOR offloads a salary in the trade
CGY is heading a bit of a UFA armageddon in 24-25, and with lindholm, backlund, toffoli, hanifan, dube, tanev, zadorov and more all expiring, poor kadri and huberdeau could use a forward with term

Last thing we need is another G or winger right now

Well, some placeholder, it's not a key part of the deal. Basically you go up 9 positions.

I would do this deal depending on who is there at 13, unfortunately Buffalo needs RD to, so if Reinbacher or Wallinder are there they probably take them.

I don't see the Sharks giving up on any of the big 4 in this draft.

IMO Hart is worth more than moving up 9 positions.

Therefore, there will be some plus, but not a huge one.

There will be a bidding war for Hart, it's gonna take a lot.

Hopefully nothing as he shouldn't be moved. There are whispers though that Fedotov may be an option next season.

Is Hart a franchise goalie though? He came on hot but the last 3 years hasn’t been good. Maybe if the 2nd is taken out, I wouldn’t mind it as much

The team has been awful the last 3 years. He was above league average last year on one of the worst teams in the league, possibly the worst without him, so ya I think he is.

Sharks need full scale rebuild and getting an actual franchise goaltender may sabotage that process. But even more sabotage would be trading down from that 4th pick

Plenty of studs at #7 will be available. I get not wanting to lose out on 1 of the top 4 but you get a franchise goalie for doing so. So now you get 2 pieces instead of 1.

The sharks are not in a position to give up draft picks unless we're getting a spectacular compensation for them. Our priorities are to gain cap flexibility and refresh our strengthen our prospect pool. As much as we would love to have Hart, it's just not the right time as we're more reliant on seeing what we have in our system and then acquiring franchise-level players.

The more I see this trade for the Wings, the less I like it. I’d prefer to keep the 2nd out of it and just the 17th OA & Zadina. Konecny’s contract AAV is nice but he’s only got 2 years and I’d prefer to give up that sort of draft capital for a player with longer team control. Ultimately I’d probably just prefer to keep the picks and not make this sort of deal.

We can potentially draft Eduard Sale or Tom Willander with that 1st pick and perhaps Maxim Strbak or Kasper Haluttenen with the 2nd rounder.

Not getting TK for a mid 1st and bust...

I can appreciate that. I’d prefer to keep the picks and draft 2 top 40 players in a very deep draft with those picks.
