Description
I don’t love the idea of trading Marner. I don’t think many fans realize what he really brings to the table in all facets of the game. Sure, maybe his size is a knock in the playoffs. But he kills penalties and is one of the smartest players in the game. But if you can get a haul for him (Kings fans will complain) - the new GM has to consider it. Even taking on Doughty and his contract for 4 years is iffy despite getting some of the younger guys.

Los Angeles declines. Marner has no value to us after two seasons because we can't re-sign him, Brodie has no value to us after one season because we won't re-sign him, and Robertson and Voit have virtually no value to us at all. In contrast, Doughty will be good for at least the next two seasons and Byfield, Kaliyev and Vilardi are expected to be cornerstones of our future.

Of the Big Five on the Toronto roster, Marner is the worst fit for Los Angeles.

Thanks for the chuckle.

It always amuses me that after having conducted this failed experiment over the last half-decade, Toronto fans would now like to abandon the top-down method of team construction and make the Maple Leafs look like the bottom-up Kings while making the Kings look like the Maple Leafs.

We're not going to trade away a raft of the quality players we've carefully and painstakingly assembled over the last five seasons.
