Well Arizona and Colorado don't do those trades. Gee, why do Leafs fans have no appreciation of Keller play/contract or Marner's $$$ and term.,

Marner is by far the better player.

Which will be very helpful to the contending Coyotes for the next 2 years!

Wait a second

It's not like Keller and Crouse are helping them that much either.

So naturally they give up a first round pick

The asking price for a 100 point Selke finalist is expensive.

Who's asking?

95% of the Matthews and Marner and Nylander trades I see on here are made by Toronto fans, trying to exchange one of their big-ticket players for three or four players of high quality with an equivalent total cap hit, as here: combined cap hit of Crouse and Keller = $11.45 million; combined cap hit of Marner and player to fill the opened roster slot = $11.8 million or more.

Combined points recorded by Crouse and Keller in 2022-2023 = 126. Marner's 99 points plus replacement $900,000 player = ???

Keller is signed for 5 more seasons and Crouse is signed for 4 more seasons; Marner, for two.

Marner's contract expires in 2025, just when we can expect the former Phoenix franchise to be moving into its new arena -- probably in another state. They'll want to have marquee players to attract their new fans to the arena. Right now, Crouse and Keller will be part of that team. With this trade, the franchise will have nothing after Marner walks.

This would be a bad -- not poor, bad -- trade for Arizona. And, as @Warpbox says, they give up the 12th overall pick in this year's draft, too?

Marner is obviously the better player but Keller and his contract is way more tradeable for the Yotes. even if Keller does end up wanting out, a star on an affordable contract with several years left is a lot easier to get significant picks or assets for than the better player on the very expensive, soon-to-expire-but-not-soon-enough-to-immediately-extend contract

The team that gets the best player generally wins the trade. Look at the Tkachuk trade last year. And maybe Marner will decide to re-sign there. Nobody can predict where players want to be. What we know, for certain, is that Arizona is a dumpster fire and Keller probably wants out. Having a team full of disgruntled players is a bad situation. Trading a couple of them for a superstar player in the league is a worthy gamble.

By far? Sounds rather homerish. Keller, seven more goals than Marner. Marner 13 more points. Keller didn't play with Matthew/Tavares/or Nylander. Keller is is on 7.2m X 5 contract, Marner 11m X 2.
Marner isn't worth Keller, never mind adding Crouse and 1st. Horrible trade for Avs also.

How can any objective person think three years of Marner and Nylander is worth Keller, Crouse, Byram and a first?

It's not though. Rebuilding teams aren't paying picks to get stars on short contracts. It doesn't make sense

The 1st is going the wrong way on the Avs trade.

You also forgot to retain on Nylander.

And also forgot another first and A+ prospect going to the Avs.
