why do the rangers have pay the penguins to take laf

I agree that's probably not enough but the trade is from 14 (Pens) to 22 (NYR). That value is equivalent to a high 2nd round pick (around 38 overall). The Rangers are getting draft capital not losing it.

I would agree but he is likely basing it off of others he saw offering a 4.2MM offer and losing a 2nd. By that respect, a high 2nd is better than a low 2nd.
