I remember a time when Canadian players would say Yes no matter what. Yzerman and Ryan Smyth come to mind. I do recall Ray Bourque turning down the 1991 and 1996 (World) Canada Cups though. ☹️

Right! I remember even as a kid of the early 2000's it always felt like the best players would go so they could represent the country.

Especially the European teams. It's a thank you for helping developing them as young players. And representing your country of course. I can understand an older vet whose body is banged up wanting the rest.

But in my opinion, if you're a younger player like Laffy, you should want to play in the WC. I know it's a player's choice. But a young player like him can learn so much playing with veteran players.

I think it's a privilege to represent your country too. It's not easy making an Olympic or World Cup Team Canada. WC gives you an opportunity.
