"Demoted to the AHL" isn't a thing, considering he has a NMC.

Could be wrong as well, but I think if he retires, you end up with a cap recapature penalty since it was a 35+ contract. Basically it's option a) He plays in the NHL, or B) He ends up on LTIR because of some "injury". Have to imagine the league would be doing a pretty big smell test.

I’m really banking on Carter throwing his back out eating a plate of pancakes in August and unfortunately is never the same after and is forced to miss the entire 2023-24 season. It’s gonna be a big tragedy really.

I don't know. Not a huge fan myself. Nothing against him personally, I'm sure he's a great guy. But didn't love how all season long when he's struggling he never opens himself up to media. Then the first game he plays well in a long time he makes himself available just to say "I don't care what you guys say about me". Athletes have tough jobs and put their bodies on the line every day, but when your in that role you also will face criticism if you play poorly. He doesn't deserve any personal attacks, no player does, but I think the critiques on his play have been fair. Again, nothing personal against him, sure he's a good dude and has had a great career but just wasn't a fan of his post game comments.

Side note: I know Dumo has not been good at all this year, but I really respect how he's handled himself throughout the process. He's taken interviews all year and you can see he's putting it all out there. I just think it's a tough situation with the injuries he's had. I'm sure two serious leg injuries like that would slow down any player. It's sad to see happen, but as far as I'm concerned he did more than enough helping us win two cups. While I think Sullivan has been making the wrong decision giving big minutes to him Carter and others, Dumo is always a Pens legend in my book.

As far as signings go, think the defense needs more work/overhaul. And I'd prefer new goaltending tandem and a younger player than Tarasenko.

No you're correct. If he retires the cap hit stays. But if he retires he doesn't get paid.

I don't think the league will do anything since all of the GMs, owners and players want this loophole.

He will develop the Hossa jersey allergy and have to go on LTIR.

Or his leg is bothering him from his 2017 injury. Or his core muscles from the 2020 injury. These things can come back. He rehabs for a bit but can't come back this season. Better go on LTIR...

Maybe that's why fanatics is taking over the jersey game for the NHL...jerseys made from bubblegum, hopes and dreams!
