This contract would have negative value in the offseason. Now it's worth a 2nd and people will say it's a good deal for Winnipeg. Wild how that works.

Why would this deal have a negative value? A decent second line physical winger?

LOVE this for Winnipeg, would’ve thought he fetched a late first for sure. Would’ve loved to have him back in Carolina but he doesn’t really fit in the lineup anymore.

I guess the extra year under contract didn't really bolster his value b/c it's hard to see him going for less than a 2nd rounder, even as a pending UFA. W for WPG

Too bad there aren't any takers for Johansen or Duchene. That's about $10M combined flushed down the toilet every season.

NOOOOO!

I thought we (NSH) had a shot at trying fo rthe playoffs.
Maybe I'm just too hopeful with our playoff streak and all.
I like Nino, he's a great player, awesome person and was a decent fit for our team. He will be missed in NSH. WPG wins as I'd want a 3rd+roster player with similar term back for him

Good pickup for Winnipeg. I thought Niederreiter was a good signing for Nashville this past off-season, and one that they would be unlikely to regret because with only 2 years term they wouldn’t be stuck having to overpay him during his declining years, unlike a lot of free agents his age. I just realized that it’s next year’s 2nd-round pick, not this year’s, so there’s a risk that it will be earlier in the round, but it’s still a small price to pay for a guy who can play in the top 6 the rest of this season and next at a reasonable cap hit. The only negative I can see is that he doesn’t seem to be one of those guys who distinguishes himself in the playoffs.

I haven’t seen him play much in Nashville, but it looks like he’s on his way to another 20+ goal season, so based on that I’d guess that he’s been meeting expectations but not exceeding them. As a UFA signing they still come out ahead trading him for a 2nd, but I’m curious why they’re trading him at all. Are they freeing up cap space for another move (these $4M middle-6 guys with moveable contracts are usually the ones to go when a team wants to do that) or are they starting a general sell-off because they’ve realized they’ll never be as good as they were last year when everybody had a career year? I guess we’ll see.

Wow, great pickup for the Jets. Only a 2nd round pick for a very solid 5v5 performer, with term left too.

Duchene is still worth $6M. RJ is worthless.

Eh, heard some stuff that he's a good leader. Isn't worthless in that sense and the fact that he can win draws.
Agree with you on Duchene's value. RJ, is a 5.5 mil player.

Wake Holland up for his own safety! Ppl are getting restless in Edmonton. A lot fans feel very badly for McDavid around the league. Its so bad here that he wont be blamed for leaving in 2026
