The Penguins have obvious needs heading toward the trade deadline:

* Scoring third line forward

* Defensive defenseman

* 1B/2 goaltender to upgrade from DeSmith and Tokarski

You hit the nail man. Exactly. I've been saying it this way, Defensive D, with maybe some grit, physicality. Scoring depth. And goaltending insurance.

Granlund is scoring depth, for sure, although he plays C and he's more of a playmaker, so we'll see how he slots. I forgot he had some great years in Minny with Zuck. He seems like a high character guy, had an "A" in Nashville and was praised by Poile last year.

I don't see any G help out there now, so I guess we go with Jarry/DeSmith again. If they stay healthy I'm reasonably OK with this but I would have really liked if we made a push for Gavrikov/Korpi. That just made so much sense to me.

As far as D... the only guy I see left is Soucy. We missed on Schenn too.

UNLESS, we make a big move, for Boeser/Miller and Myers, and maybe Delia? Only way we make that happen is with legit salary going out but I would take Myers at 50% retained over Pettersson, on paper at least.
