WAYYYY undersold Barbashev. Asking price starts at a first. may not get all of that but I think he's a better player than Barclay Goodrow and Blake Coleman and they both got a first

No thanks from CAR. Value not bad but not interested in the player right now.

Interesting idea on Namestnikov. Underproduced in Tampa and has a relatively high cap hit for his production. A move like this would open up Tampa's ability to buy another cheap rental without sending another player out to make the cap work.

Both those guys had a much longer track record of being top-tier defensive forwards - something Barbashev really isn't. Both of them also had an extra year of term at a lower AAV than Barbashev, who's a pure rental - Coleman had a $1.8M AAV and Goodrow only cost $925K. I just don't think this is a really relevant comparison for trade value.

One Tampa can't pay, presumably. Not much in the way of enticing futures in that cupboard. They could perhaps get Acciari with their 23 3rd, though.

Goodrow and Coleman got better returns because they were both under contract for another year at a cheap cap hit. Barbashev is a straight up rental.

Canes pass. ROR looks really slow, not trading an almost 1st round pick for a rental

I feel like I’m in the minority of Isles fans here, but this isn’t a hard pass for me. For me, it’d depend on whether or not Tarasenko is willing to extend at a reasonable price. If he comes extended anywhere around 6m aav, I’d do this trade. Bailey’s contract isn’t worth his production, and giving up a 1st and a 2nd to switch out a bad contract for a good one (Odelius is behind an LHD logjam and Newkirk is a depth prospect for sure) is worth it to me.

Now, my guess is Tarasenko does NOT extend at that low of a price (though given his age and injury history, that’s what I think he’d be worth), so without that favorable extension, I don’t do this deal. But I do think there’s something to this deal.

I'd rather keep Odelus and swap in Salo, but I don't really see the need for Leivo and I'm not a big fan of sending out *another* 1st round pick. It's the type of trade where I'd roll my eyes and go "predictable Lou" but if VT would be open to signing a shorter-term, higher AAV contract that doesn't kill the cap I don't think I'd lose sleep over it.

That all makes sense. My real objection to STL fans over the price of Tarasenko is they keep insisting on sign and trade level prices in a scenario where he’s likely a pure rental. Now, if Tank signs at a reasonable price with wherever he ends up, I do think he’s worth a late 1st round pick, a 2nd rounder and some B and C prospects. But my guess is Tank wants to cash in, and SOME team will be desperate enough to sign him for 7.5-8m in UFA. He’s got a Cup, he might as well cash in.
