- Vancouver isn't as big as Edmonton or Calgary, comparing that to Toronto (the biggest franchise in the NHL) to Ottawa (a small market team) is absurd

Not Geographically, the amount of fans and media attention Vancouver gets vs. Edmonton or Calgary gets

Yah you could be right on that one, at least for Edmonton anyways.

I've seen more news about Calgary choking this year away than anything about the Canucks

I'm being serious lol,
But the fact that you weren't sure on whether or not I was kidding kind of proves my point... If I were (for example; I did hear about this all season) to say I didn't realize McDavid hit 150 points this season, would you be sure that I legitimately didn't know that or thought I was trolling?

To be clear I meant no offence lol, I was just surprised about you being serious, there was lots of media speculation about Boudreau getting canned all year until it happened. Yes I’d think you were kidding though if you said you didn’t know about McDavid passing 150 though

Horvat (and a 2nd to Detroit) for Räty, Hronek, and a 5th

Now you have to throw Zadorov in there too: Horvat, a 2nd and a 3rd for Raty, Hronek and Zadorov. Plus they got some good mileage out of Beauvillier while they had him.

And Isles got Horvat extended. A top 6 center at 27 years of age in his prime for magic beans yet so many here at first thought Canucks won this deal by A MILE! LMAO

Shows how overrated picks and prospects are in this forum. Raty is a complete bust. Beau was dumped for nada. They overpaid themselves for Hronek. Worked out but Horvat is the best asset.

Isles handily won this trade! Horvat is the best player, they win!

I can’t argue too much with that, but when you consider that Vancouver wasn’t going to sign Horvat, they did pretty well turning two months of him into at least two years of Hronek. (I say at least two years because worst case he goes to arbitration next summer and leaves as a UFA in 2025, but I’d be surprised if it gets to that point.)

This is a trade that really took its time to materialize for the Islanders.

While I wouldn’t call this bad for either team, I think it’s clear who got the better end of the stick here

In what world is Raty a complete bust? He’s still only 21, had an elite D+1 year in the Finnish league, struggled a bit last year, and has played really well this year in the AHL. Is Slafkovsky a complete bust because he’s struggled tremendously so far? No, because he’s still young and has time to progress. Same with Raty

And Horvat may be the best player currently (could still argue Hronek is), but that contract isn’t the greatest. Glad we got a good prospect and a pick that we flipped to get Hronek rather than giving Horvat that contract

Horvat isn't living up to his contract. It's close, but not quite.
Raty is just 21 years old and his fourth in scoring on the Abbotsford Canucks.
Beau was a cap dump to Vancouver.
Vancouver turned the pick into Hronek and Beau into Zadorov.

There's no rational world where you can say the Islanders won this deal.

Terrible for the Isles. They can turn it around if they flip him for a better return but I seriously question Lou's ability to do that. They very well could miss, should miss the playoffs and they just dealt there best prospect like wat...

You sure

Islanders are in exactly the same spot a year later. One must look a bit higher up the standings to find the Canucks.

You can’t exactly call any of the pieces Vancouver got in the trade a major factor as to why

Isles got the best player. At worst you call this an even trade and at best a Isles steal
