Buffalo should stay far away from barrie. He is exactly what they don't need

Buff has no need for a RD like Barrie. If anything I could see them doing more of a change of scenery type of swap. This isn't that.

Barrie has had such a weird career. He was pretty awesome for the Avs, but I wonder how much of that was because EJ carried so much of the tough defensive minutes so Barrie could get sheltered.

Or could it be that Barrie has always been a good productive player that unfortunately spent a brief stint in Toronto where that fan base completely demolished his reputation? He's had multiple really good years in Edmonton but since Toronto fan base is soo loud and ignorant to watching other teams play nothing he does will set those voices straight... Maybe people need to wise up and realize the problem might not be Barrie might have more to do with a certain fan bases talent evaluation.

Realistically, it’s probably somewhere in the middle: he’s a useful, albeit limited defender that will thrive if you give him a more sheltered role and lots of PP time. If you misuse him like Babcock did, you’re gonna have a bad time.

An elite offensive RHD for a 3rd line center, I wonder which GM would say no?
Now with Jost centering the fourth line and Krebs or Asplund possible centers, Mittelstadt's production falling off the face of the earth (6 pt and -9 in last 15 games v 7pts in his first 9 games with a 0+/-), this seems to move a player who has become disinterested playing for a productive RHD to bolster a position needing NHL quality players.
Casey after his first 9 games appeared to be ready to claim the #2 center, with his lazy performance of late he appears ready to claim a spot in the press box.
Given the choice of Tyson or Casey, the choice is pretty straight forward to me.

We don't need offensive D, we need defensive D.

Someone who doesn't need an offensive D. I bet Adams wouldn't have made that trade and he wouldn't be interested in Barrie. We don't have problems with PP or scoring goals, we're good at that, look at the stats. But we have problems with defense, goalies and PK, Barrie does not help us in any way, but only harms us. I would rather have Jokiharju and Lyubushkin in the lineup than Barrie.
