Another 1st rounder

Description
Jankowski for kappy seems fair. Kappy is younger and has shown more scoring but jankoski is a big C. Jvr for Roy and 12th may be little too much but I like the idea of building more C depth and getting another first in this weak draft. Martin should be on his way to LV to clear room for better players.

Question (leave in comments) who could the leafs sign/trade for that's better then Martin but who also can fight etc. Not sure who possible target could be.

Not a fan of either trade. Neither trade help the Leafs defense. Also I highly doubt we will get a first for JVR unless the team we trade him to knows they can resign him.

Canes say yes and thank you if they can sign JVR.

Your question is interesting - but only because I don't see a need for an enforcer. Personally, I think Lam was an idiot for signing Martin in the first place. Leafs don't need an enforcer IMO however if you want a big body who will drop the gloves target Reaves on the blues - the guy is a beastly man.

I like the idea of targeting Mark Jankowski, but because center is such a premium position and because he had such a good rookie year in the AHL, I think Calgary would want more. I don't like your Canes trade because this year's draft class is not very strong, unless you plan to then use both the Leafs first and Canes 1st to move up and get a player like Cody Glass, and it was Jake Bean instead of Nicolas Roy, then I'd potentially reconsider. Finally, I think the Leafs keep Matt Martin and try to entice Vegas with an additional asset of some kind to take Eric Fehr or Martin Marincin off their hands.

Leafs do need D but also could use a good young C who could potentially play in the top nine after Bozak walks or gets traded. I think willy could play C but I like his game on the wing (like Marner). I am implying that there would be a deal in place to sign jvr once he's available to resign. Plus the canes love x leafs lol.

comp to take martins term. I would just like him off the team. Not cause he's terrible. They just have more guys I would like to see get ice. Don't need a fighter. And Lindberg is low on our LW prospect list but still has potential.

I don't think the leafs should have a fighter either but if they are going to have one I'd rather he be a better player.

I agree about C being premium. I just thought the age difference makes up for it a bit. Mark is 23 already and should be having a strong AHL season at that age (which he did). I do think this is a weak draft which is why I believe you may be able to get a top 15 first for JVR. And Roy is another big C who had a strong year. Because he wasn't a high pick I think it's possible to get him. He could be productive 3C. Jvr would need to resign and I'm not against the least resigning him at a reasonable price. I just think he will want term and it would be better to use him to get younger. I also thought about trading up but realistically unless your getting Hischier or patrick I'd just pick at 12/17. I'd love to get Necas so I'd trade up from 12 or 17 with other picks (not both) to get him. I'd also like Makar but he should go top 6-7. Valimaki will be a stud if he's there at 17. If hes not and they want to draft a D just draft brannstrom. I know he's small but he could he an elite D. Or trade down a few. Take Timmons. And salo in 2nd round.

Jvr isn't netting a 1st rounder and neither all these "top prospects" on the leafs that aren't exempt...

Despite what Leaf fans think, the Marlies are not filled with NHL players at the Marlie level. They are good AHL players, not indication that they are NHLers. Just don't trading Kapanen is such a good move. Funny that people that probably watch NHL games do no not know the role of an enforcer at the NHL level. Matthews, Nylander, Marner didn't have to put up with any crap last year. One reason Martin was on the team. And Martin certainly didn't hurt the Leafs when he was on the ice.

This comment is 100% bang on. Y'all are nuts for not wanting to protect your players. Rutherford in Pittsburgh just said the other day that his team needs a fighter because people are targeting Crosby and it needs to stop. Did anyone ever go after Gretzky? Cheap shot Lemieux? Maybe a few but they all had it in the back of their head that if they did they'd have to fight. You wouldn't have cheap shot artists like Marchand runnin rough shot hurtin guys. This "we gotta get fighting outta hockey" is B.S. imo.
