That’s a whole lot of stuff from Edmonton for a guy Colorado can’t afford anymore.

Don't think the Oilers find that satisfactory.

    Detroit declines.

With only two retention slots and 11 players on expiring contracts we're not going to sell one of them for an AHL-player and a 5th round pick.

Oilers pass all day long. Girard is a fine d man but asking way way too much aside from that don't think he's the fit Edmonton would be looking for because of his size most of the oilers d are either on the smaller side or lack physicality so if Edmonton was to pay a premium for a d I'd expect it be another Larrson type.

Agree with most of this, but Oilers defensemen are on the smaller side?? That's totally not the case.

In terms of physical play... We got big bodies that can skate really well some that can pass extremely well in bouch but if niemelainen is the big physical presence that lays on the body regularly that is an area of slight concern since it's far from certain he will be a regular in the line up. Even nurse he's a big body but doesn't tend to punish people the way Larsson would.

they won't blow up their team, they dont need to "make room for Mack", he slots in nicely next year cap wise without any moves

and they definitely wouldnt touch that Kane deal with a 10 foot pole. let him rot in Chicago

You don't need that to win though. Colorado didn't have it*, Tampa didn't have it**

    * Through the playoffs last year, Colorado's big hitters played a minor role. The most physical of their top-4 was Manson, who was credited with a similar number of hits as Nurse and Kulak.
** during their last run, the Lightning's best hitter in the top-4 was Cernak, and again he was in the same range as Nurse and Kulak.

A guy like Niemelainen drops more than twice the rate of hits as those guys do. It's great for bottom pairing work, not necessary in the top-4 in order to win. Samorukov and Desharnais are about as physical as Nemo and both are closer to the NHL IMO.

The Oilers made it to the Conference Finals with Keith playing a key role, and he's less physical than Barrie.

BTW, Larsson was getting walked regularly in his last year as an Oiler, I'm not sad to see him go. Physicality is great, but only if you can catch them...

Yzerman got a 4th to retain 1 .4 million, you are asking him to retain almost twice as much for much less. No thanks

Despite what fans are saying the EDM deal is pretty clever. Depends on how you feel about Broberg and opportunity cost and cap space is a small issue for EDM atm but its one of the more creative and intelligent posts on here.

Take out LOC of the Chi deal, no reason to have him in there. Also I don't think Kane gets that much but that is nit picking.

The Det deal is pretty historically accurate for that level of retention
