Improving the D without Selling off to much of the future

Created by: Wulfgar85
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2017
Published: May 22, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm choosing to target two RHD that both miss a bunch of time with injuries but still can hopefully help the leafs back end. I think they would be cheaper to aquire. I know Babs siad Nylander wouldn't be a center this upcoming season but I don't fully believe him.

Additional Details:
Leafs are taking a risk trading for Myers. You never know how well a player will return from missing almost a full season due to injuries. Valiev has drop in the leafs depth chart but I think he has all the makings to be a serviceable bottom pairing guy. Marincin had a rough season but I think a change would do him good
3.
VAN
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Carrick, Connor
Additional Details:
Tanev is a good D man who can't stay healthy. This trade makes sense for the rebuilding Nucks. Carrick is a good young D man who is improving each season has the making to be a top 4 guy. Bracco has all the tools to be a top 6 forward but will get bogged down in the leafs depth chart. Give him a year or two in the AHL to hone is game and the Nucks will have a good young forward.

I think you should start listening to Lou and Babcock! Haven't Leafs fans seen enough of centres that can't win a draw more than 45% of the time and thus give up possession! Babcock still doesn't give Kadri any defensive zone faceoffs (giving way to Komorov), and relies on bringing in veterans like Smith, and finally Boyle to take the draw in defensive situations! Nylander must get much bigger and stronger, and then ultimately gain Babcock's confidence before moving! Not in 2018! Therefore don't see without a significant alternate move the Leafs moving Bozak (56%) either!

agree with Doug, why sign boyle and trade bozak. bozak is the superior player. keep both and you have the cap room. if you trade for rhd tanev, thats understandable but to trade rhd Carrick seems so redundant. leaf fans seem to think a player like bracco will get lost in all the leafs forward talent with the marlies. yes the marlies have lots of wingers but to think they are all nhlers, is leaf fan fantansy. trade bracco if you want but that logic, that there isn't room for him, because of those other nhlers are blocking him, isn't factual

Vancouver and Winnipeg would both say no. The returns for Myers and Tanev are pretty light. Considering the number of teams that would be in on both players, the likelihood is that a team has to overpay instead of underpay to acquire them. You are looking at a first round pick PLUS, PLUS. Consider that Bob McKenzie postulated that the 3rd overall pick would not suffice to get Dallas a top 4 D or top 6 forward on its own, these deals are not even close to that ballpark. Nylander or at least Kapanan would be a must in any trade for a top 4 D and then some. That being said, Lou will probably not trade for a d man this summer.

Nucks and Jets are dreaming if they think they will get 1st plus a good prospect. If any team is dumb enough to trade that much for Myers or Tanev then let them have them. As for the ones who don't like Nylander at center than just cancel the Bozak trade and flip Nylander back on Matthews wing. I would still resign Boyle.

No team is trading a top 4 defenseman for another teams disposable 2nd tier prospects. Neither Winnipeg or Vancouver is at risk to lose either player in the ED. They only make a trade if it is beneficial to their situation. I don't see how Marincin or Valiev do ANYTHING for Winnipeg. Bracco is a nice piece but Carrick is meh. Canucks can do much better.
