Not doing that if I'm the Flyers. I'd give you the 2018 1st and two defensive prospects for Carlson but not the #2 pick

i think carlson has more immediate upside which as a flyers fan you know is more important than long term upside like nico/patrick.......also i think mojo >shenn also cheaper so you are getting the two better players just giving up the younger potentially good/great player. which hes projected if i read it right to be a solid 2/3rd line center carlson is a top pairing d men....... right handed also i think you reacted before you really looked at the trade....imo

Yeah, no. I'm with Nate. I get that Carlson is probably a #2 on most teams and that Mojo is better than Schenn, but there's no incentive for the Flyers to take this deal. We lose what's going to probably end up being close to 6 million dollars in cap space which is going to be really important when we're re-signing the young D, lose a key part of our PP1 that Mojo isn't going to replace, add to our glut of NHL level centers by trading a wing for one, and lose out on G's probably replacement that is going to be cost controlled for seven years. You think that the Flyers wouldn't have been more aggressive if they were in a win now mentality? You think we would have stockpiled the amount of D prospects we have? If Homer or Clarke was the GM, this trade probably goes through. Not with Hextall though

no I'm not saying that it isn't fair, but the Flyers need a center to replace G in a few years which is why I said we can't do that deal. We have no natural centers in the system and after this year all we have is Coots/G. We have plenty of defensive prospects and for all we know Provorov could develop into a Carlson type player. Yes I know the two better players are coming to us immediately but we are always stuck in limbo - never good enough to win a cup and never bad enough to draft a franchise altering player. We have a chance to get a really good player at #2 that could be a 1/2C for the next 10 years and we can't pass up that chance or we will in the same place we are right now 5 years from now...

Or we could just trade some of our young D anyway and avoid getting caught with our pants down if either of those teams back out. Drouin isn't going to happen for Carlson because Tampa is cap strapped anyway. What's the point of going through a division rival middle man?
