First Overall's From the Last Decade Ranked

ROUND 1TEAMORIGINALPLAYERDETAILS
1Logo of the Montreal Canadiens-
Connor McDavid
No Brainer Generational Talent
2Logo of the New Jersey Devils-
Auston Matthews
Huge body center who can play a 200 ft game and score 60+ goals. Nothing else to be said.
3Logo of the Arizona Coyotes-
Nathan MacKinnon
An absolute machine out there on the ice. Arguably the best skater in the league behind McDavid and has an insane shot/playmaking ability.
4Logo of the Seattle Kraken-
Jack Hughes
5Logo of the Philadelphia Flyers-
Owen Power
A lot of unknown here still. Biggest skater to be drafted first in the last decade +. Solid two way D man who is projected to be key piece eating mins on a cup contending team. Similar style to Hedman but probably wont reach that level.
6Logo of the Columbus Blue JacketsLogo of the Chicago Blackhawks
Rasmus Dahlin
Dahlin has been a victim of the abysmal Buffalo rosters since his rookie season. Drafted hyped as "Lidstrom V2", his offensive numbers have yet to flourish. I expect as Buffalo gets better, we'll see the real Dahlin and I think he's still able to be an elite top pair Dman.
7Logo of the Chicago BlackhawksLogo of the Ottawa Senators
Aaron Ekblad
Ekblad came into the league a grown man. Defends really well, plays physical and has just been really solid his whole career. Him being out of Florida's lineup these last playoffs highlighted how big of an impact he has in anchoring his teams defense. Super underrated.
8Logo of the Detroit Red Wings-
Nico Hischier
Similar to Dahlin, NJ's poor teams have kept Hischier from excelling so far. With the rise of Hughes, Mercer and a few other players, we saw a glimpse of Hischier's offensive talent. A solid TWF who will seemingly be NJ's 2nd line C for the next decade
9Logo of the Buffalo Sabres-
Alexis Lafrenire
Alexis is a high impact forward who has potential to be a rare breed in this league. A highly skilled power forward. Still lots of time for him to grow and put up higher numbers. almost 20 goals on NYR's 3rd line with limited PP time as well. Perhaps Laf will rise on this ranking in the future but for now im putting him here.
10Logo of the Anaheim Ducks-Obviously Slafkovsky is ranked last as he's yet to play 1 game in the NHL.I think he has a chance to be an elite power forward who, like Alexis, can be a player very few teams have. Creating space for Caufield and Suzuki, he's expected to be one of MTL's top wingers for the next 10 years+.
11Logo of the Arizona CoyotesLogo of the San Jose Sharks
12Logo of the Columbus Blue Jackets-
13Logo of the Chicago BlackhawksLogo of the New York Islanders
14Logo of the Winnipeg Jets-
15Logo of the Vancouver Canucks-
16Logo of the Buffalo SabresLogo of the Vegas Golden Knights
17Logo of the Nashville Predators-
18Logo of the Dallas Stars-
19Logo of the Minnesota WildLogo of the Los Angeles Kings
20Logo of the Washington Capitals-
21Logo of the Pittsburgh Penguins-
22Logo of the Anaheim DucksLogo of the Boston Bruins
23Logo of the St. Louis Blues-
24Logo of the Minnesota Wild-
25Logo of the Chicago BlackhawksLogo of the Toronto Maple Leafs
26Logo of the Montreal CanadiensLogo of the Calgary Flames
27Logo of the San Jose SharksLogo of the Carolina Hurricanes
28Logo of the Buffalo SabresLogo of the Florida Panthers
29Logo of the Arizona CoyotesLogo of the Edmonton Oilers
30Logo of the Winnipeg JetsLogo of the New York Rangers
31Logo of the Tampa Bay Lightning-
32Logo of the Edmonton OilersLogo of the Colorado Avalanche

Jack Hughes Comments for some reason didn't save so here: Hughes broke out finally in the 21/22 season. Flashing his elite skill. On pace for over 90 points this year I except Hughes to be an absolute electric star for the Devils over the next decade.

*DISCLAIMER*

This is who I'd have being drafted in the top 10 if GM's had to pick which players to build a team around. Kinda like a fantasy draft. Not ranking them based on who's best RN!

The way I see first overall picks ranked is normally based on projected career. Idk it’s weird seeing power at 5 having a few nhl games under his belt and slaf at 10. Tbh ekblad is last, then nico, then laf, then slaf, and ur list is right the rest of the way up. Nico and laf will flip flop if laf doesn’t take a huge step this year

How do you have Ekblad below Dahlin and Power?

That's fair. Yeah honestly I just feel like Power will have a stronger impact on his team than the last few #1's minus Hughes. We saw in the playoffs how effective a huge dman can be and if you have one who's actually skilled on both ends it's a luxury. So maybe its recency bias I put him up so high. I just don't see laf, slaf, and nico having that impact. But we'll see!

Well it's based off potential mostly. I think they both have potential to be better Defenseman and if I was a GM and had to pick between the 3, Ekblad would probably be last to build a team around

very well could be! I just see a 6'6 mobile dman with offensive upside as something many gm's would not pass on! Not too many of them around
