    The trade does seem fair, but I doubt it happens

    Good to know. Wanna elaborate on that a bit?

    I doubt it too but it's an alternative to what I've been seeing on this site.

    Polak shouldn't be resigned, he's only taking up a roster spot for better players. Carrick and Rielly are flipped. Kapanen will not be traded for a D, he is far too valuable as a penalty killer. He's one of the best skaters on the team. They would regret that trade.

    Babcock likes Polak and as long as he's healthy I think they will resign him. Rielly played a lot on his offhand this year and Slavin is a LHD. And yes Carrick is on his off hand as well. We need a good young defensive upsided D and Kapanen is a hell of a skater and good on the PK but I think we did ok without him last year.

    It's rly not even close. With Kapanen u have a shot for Fleury+/Bean+.
    If u want Slavin canes would ask Marner/Nylander.

    E: And its fine Toronto wouldn't move em. Slavin is also the last guy canes would move. Just pointing out that the value in that trade is way off.

    yeah Kapanen doesn't hold nearly as much value as Slavin even though most Leafs fans think he is somehow good enough to net them any player in the league. Teams are stupid. They aren't giving up top-2/4 defenders for anything short of Marner/Nylander. If you want a prospect with top-4 potential that's a different story and you could get a guy like Bean/Fleury but you aren't getting guys who have been in the NHL and performed for a guy who doesn't really have much to show in his limited playing time.

    Need more than an unproven soon-to-be sophomore player and swapping 2nds. Feasible in that both teams address a need, but the moving parts need to be altered.

    Slavin has elevated his game to be a good with potential to be a very good Dman. Nylander in return is closer tot thanKapanen.

    This is why I don't see this trade happening;

    1rst and foremost because Canes have no need at all to do it; they have a trillion prospects, are loaded with draft picks, have the lowest cap hit of NHL, and Slavin this season has highest TOI/GP on the team, 3rd TOI PP and 1rst TOI PK.....
    On Leafs side; Rielly played most season on LHD partner with Zaitsev....in my opinion Leafs will sign a veteran LHD to use on PK, Hunwick if dont come to terms with a reasonable upgrade. Need a RHD but if nothing reasonable is found Babcock will use Marchenko, Polak back is a possibility but injury with long recovery is a question mark and if he does come back will be with lower salary for sure. This year is unique with expansion draft and Lou will find a way to upgrade RHD spot, to begin we have Zaitsev long term for a reasonable cap hit and this could already be a huge signing won't be noticed until later on when we have to sign RFA Matthews and Marner in 2 summers down the road...
