Description
My first time using this so I'm sorry if I did something wrong. This team is a team that I think will age nicely and has some longevity. I think the leafs need to stop trading for guys who are 30+ because we are shortening are window like that.

So first is Puljujarvi, a guy with great underlying numbers and defensive abilities. He can play top6 or 3rd line. Next is Alex Carrier, not sure if Brodie will wave his clause, if not he may agree to go back to Calgary, if not then maybe Muzzin will.

Here's my reasoning for Carrier:

Not a name many are familiar with. He’s a 25 year old right handed d man on the preds who’s making 733k for one more year before becoming an RFA. Had 30 points in 77 games this season and was a +26, highest on his team, second highest was Ekholm with +14, nearly two times less. I know that the stat doesn’t mean much but still worth noting. Had 3 points in the playoffs despite being swept as well.

He’s spent the last couple years buried in the minors but he played his first season this year and apparently was very good. He’s only 5,11 174lbs but he’s not soft with 95 hits and 50pim. This guy just keeps improving and I could see him becoming a really solid defensemen, could be another Devon Toews or Mac Weegar.

Him Toews are incredibly similar, they both were in the minors for a while before ending a full nhl season with around 30 points at 25 years old. They’re both on the smaller side and have strong analytics and both offensive and defensive upside. Now Toews is in the finals and is nearly a point per game defensemen. At the time of the trade the islanders valued him highly and we’re still contenders but the Avalanche overpayed with two 2nds which payed off big time for them.

I suspect the preds value Carrier highly as well, they will be competitive next year but if we overpay like the avalanche did this could pay off in a big way. He could play with Rielly on the top line and mirror a Toews-Makar or Ekblad-Weegar pairing. It complicates the defense a little bit but I think it’s totally worth it.

For the goalies I have Husso who shows some promise, only 1 year but at a high cap hit so that we don't have another Mrazek scenario. This way he will take it for the money and if he performs we extend him. Stolarz is another guy who has quietly great stats. Then Gagner who has been rumoured to go to Toronto can play the 4th line and contribute at both ends.

In my opinion Brodie is the best defensive d man the leafs have and they should not even consider moving him

Might be a tad much going to Chicago, I like the idea of holding onto Tverberg as he’s shown a lot of promise, but that’s fine (maybe make the Chicago trade a hell of a lot bigger one to get Debrincat wink )
Probably would get you Pulju; I doubt he goes for full value and considering Holl would be a good cost efficient pickup for Edmonton, I could see it. I would love to get Pulju
Stolarz costs more; probably a 3rd + something. First year as a backup and played very well, makes no money. Can’t see it being much more than a 3rd and something small tho

I’d rather let Stolarz walk in FA

Responding directly about the Puljujarvi trade from an Oilers fans perspective. Firstly, value is off. Oilers don't need a random B-C tier forward prospect and a 2nd 2 years from let alone a cap dump for Puljujarvi. Sure he may get traded, sure he is on the cusp of breaking out, but one of the more poor trades I've seen value wise.

As well I personally love Puljujarvi's attitude and really love him as a personality. That being said, Oilers media (Matheson & Spector) tore Puljujarvi apart all year due to poor finishing in the 2nd half of the season, which certainly nuked his confidence. With that being said knowing Toronto and their media, Toronto would be the LAST place I want Puljujarvi to go. If he must get traded he'd thrive in a small market, low count of media asshole's market, you're going from bad to worse from Edmonton to Toronto.

NSH declines. They don't have enough depth at RD as it is, and the value's not there for them in the return.

Why do people think Jesse p. a guy with career high 15 goals is worth 3.25 million puzzles me. Mikheyev- 21 goals Kampf -11 goals Engvall- 14 goals Spezza 12-goals. Only Mikheyev would have more ice time per 60 minutes then Jesse p. You don't prepay a guy for what he may become.

Interesting. What do you think it would take from the leafs to get him, Holl can take his place on the right side and Brodie mostly plays on the right side too. What do you think his ceiling is.

The only right shot pro defensemen NSH has under contract right now are Carrier, Fabbro, Myers (who is all but guaranteed not to be with the team next season), and Tennyson (a 32 yr old AHLer). So I really don't see the Preds being eager to subtract from that group. Holl would be a fine stopgap to plug in on the 3rd pair next season, if TOR wanted to do something around Holl for Myers, but NSH would still want to keep Carrier. Brodie is a lot less enticing in that spot, given his age and contract.

I think Carrier's ceiling is where NSH has him right now. A top four defenseman that isn't the one carrying his pairing. If there was a possibility he gets traded, I think it's only going to happen as part of a package for a star player. Definitely not off the table for a Pastrnak or a DeBrincat, but not available for middle of the roster players.
