BELEAF - New Starter New 2C Just Win Baby

Description
I firmly believe that Nic Roy is a 2C in the NHL. He just needs the opportunity to establish himself.

John Gibson is interesting. A lot of people doubt he can be a great goalie again but I beleaf in him, baby. And since this is my Armchair GM post then that's all that matters.

If you think Eric Comrie's salary is too low then just move one of Simmonds or Dahlstrom to the minors and add their salary to his instead. Done. I like Kallgren as our number 3 goalie in our system, especially since he's also still waivers exempt. More goalie depth is good.

you would pay a 1st for Roy? And you think that trade including Mrazek gets you Gibson? what in the world?

BeLeaf all you want, that isnt close to what it takes to get ANA on the phone for a Gibson trade

Take out Gibson and Kerfoot and the Ducks will gladly take Niemela as compensation for taking the Mrazek deal

Could probably get away with offer sheeting Roy and not having to give up the 1st round pick. The compensation at the price you have here would just be a 2nd round pick. But OS'ing is rare these days.

That doesn't get the deal done for Gibson. Niemela is (probably) an attractive piece, but Mrazek and Kerfoot don't move the needle.

I'm really high on Nic Roy. A first for someone I believe can be a 2C if he plays with elite talent and you can presumably lock in for the long term? It makes too much sense for a team like the Leafs who are trying to contend. And, if you're trying to squeeze whatever is left of Tavares, moving him up with Matthews and Marner makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Anyone who knows anything about goalies knows that they don't net a huge return historically. Getting back an A-level prospect only makes sense for the Leafs because you'll be including Mrazek in the deal, and since the Ducks are rebuilding and won't be good for at least another two seasons, it doesn't hurt them to take him.

And you can trade Kerfoot for a 2nd round pick, IMO. So I look at Kerf as equivalent to a 2nd in this trade as well.

I'd rather make the trade to secure Roy in a sign-and-trade. He's so undervalued and locking him up would be important for the Leafs since they don't have anyone else in their system who projects as a 2C.

Goalies don't get huge returns, ever. Only reason you're including an A-level prospect is because Mrazek is being included. You also have to factor that Gibson's numbers haven't been stellar over the last three seasons, so the Leafs would be taking a risk, which would also lower the offer. And Kerf is worth a 2nd so the Ducks can flip him for that, IMO.

I feel like I've been VERY reasonable. No hyperbole here.
