Honestly i think you're giving up way too much for a 34 year old Kovalchuk here. B Davidson+N Scherbak+N Beaulieu+ Montreals 2018 2nd round pick just seems like too much here.

Agreed. Scherbak is going to be a good forward, Davidson should be a solid second pairing guy, Beaulieu already is a second pairing guy, and then a second round pick, which could be used at the deadline to bring in some forward help.

I agree, overpaying for an aging player. He's really good, but it's not the same as going after Radulov like last season, with Rads there was almost no risk aside $$$. with Kovalchuk you have to give up assets + probably more term, too risky.

Switch Emelin for Davidson, gives you just under $3M to sign the Russians, we could use a heavy LD.
Remember with kovy you get Shipy, so it's not as much as lose, considering he tags along with Ilya.

Your right too Scherbak is GOING to be good, Kovy IS good.

If you need a body take josefson, he's better than a 4th of

I'm not sure why people are rating this bad ?? Montreal needs scoring power with Kovalchuck and Shipachyov added to the group I think they fill in this problem well. Beaulieu had a terrible year let's be honest no habs fan wants to keep him in the lineup and with Jerabek added hopefully he can fill in Beaulieu's shoes (not much of a hard task)

You also have a second line with pass success in 2015 and a great 3 line that can also provide goals. I like the idea of bringing Steve Ott back.

All in all I think this is realistic and would be great for the montreal canadiens organisation.
