Ideal Flames Fan Offseason

Description
This is solely what I hope happens regardless of playoffs unless someone breakthrough like crazy. Realism might be lost because I can be a bit of a homer, but at least I know that. Let me know If this would be good or I am delusional.

-Monahan Trade: Ryan Francis is a solid prospect and has enough value to dump the last year of Monahan's contract to Seattle. Avoids a buyout.

-Parsons Trade: It would be a shame for me after all this year for him to leave the Flames and for us to not get any value after he was drafted in the 2nd round in 2016.

- Valimaki Trade: Explained in the trade.

-New Contracts: Give Johnny and Tkachuk matching 10mil contracts; they deserve it. Kylington and Mangiapane solid contracts too, trying to be realistic with their value. Bring back Carpenter, Lewis, and Stone. Zboril has been rumored to want to get out of Boston and considering Boston didn't qualify Ritchie and Kase last year, Zboril will leave them with ease and will be given a good chance here especially under Sutter. I'm a big fan of Sturm I think his energy would be good under Sutter. Also sign depth guys and sign Chechelev to an official NHL contract.

-Draft: I am in love with Filip Mesar, but sadly we won't be able to select him in the 1st round, so with the first pick for the Flames in the draft I hope they take Arseni Koromyslov. Solid two-way defender and along with other Russians may drop in the draft. With the 2nd 2nd rounder, I'd like puck-moving defenseman Kasper Kulonummi, I think he has NHL upside for sure, good skater and offensive talent.

Overall, I think this team would compete for the Pacific Division and even Western Conference in the next year while maintaining a solid prospect pipeline without having a first-round pick and trading away a former first and second-rounder draft pick. I think there is a real opportunity Pelletier makes the team out of camp and even gets placed in a middle-six role which makes this team stronger alongside an already strong d-core, offense, and goaltending. Thanks everyone!

I would not say this is close to ideal. seems pretty mediocre to me.

Ideal would be getting good value for Monahan instead of spending to move him, Valimaki taking a step forward, resigning Gudbranson for cheap, signing both Gaudreau and Tkachuk for under 10M, And moving Lucic to then sign someone like Trocheck for 2C

Oh, I would hope that Monahan would have zero value, but he definitely has negative value because he actively hurts the Flames on the ice and it's tough to believe his past two seasons have been flukes now. I don't think anyone would willingly give something to get him. I also just don't see Valimaki taking a step forward nor do I see Gaudreau or Tkachuk budging for anything under 10 because Gaudreau could test the market and Tkachuk could just take the 9m and go straight to UFA territory the next year. Again, I hope I'm wrong and this all happens but I do find myself trying to search for a needle in a haystack if I try to believe all you say will happen. Thanks for the reply!

Im fairly confident Monahan will return slightly positive value since it has already been reported there is a lot of interest in him. As for your opinion on him, he was a positive 5v5 corsi this year. And its actually quite easy to believe the past 2 season were flukes considering he played through 2 major injuries in each. Centers are always in high demand and it's an extremely low risk factor for a team to take a shot on Monahan.

I dont see why Valimaki can't take a step forward, Kylington literally passed through waivers last year because he simply was not good enough. Valimaki is younger than him and is capable of learning.

As for Tkachuk and Gaudreau, AAV is pretty irrelevant to them. Total pay, term, contract structure, signing bonuses, and clauses are what's important to players when forming a contract. I'll use Gaudreau to explain this because Tkachuk is simply not going to get a higher AAV than him. Calgary has the option of signing Johnny to an 8 year deal, no other team gets that option. An often compare player to Gaudreau is Panarin. He signed for a total of 81.5M on a 7 year deal. He also signed this deal before Covid and the flat cap. Similarly Tavares signed a 77M deal for 7 years also pre covid. Landeskog tested the market last summer asking for 9M (essentially 63M), he went back to Colorado and signed for 7M x 8yr (56M).

Players also often take discounts for their team to succeed; previously mentioned Landeskog, 2 time cup winner Point, Crosby, the entire Perfection Line, etc.

My point was you called this post "Ideal Flames Fan Offseason" but it really isn't at all ideal. More like a potential outcome

CHI would also likely want to keep their picks in the rebuild and not bring in Valimaaki with whom we have an abundance of LD prospects coming through. The 2nd is valuable to us even if its mid to late round. as is our likely early round 3rd next year.
