Hague to STL

Created by: tstrauss16
Team: 2022-23 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2022
Published: Apr. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Notes:

- Perron signs for 1 year. He can easily retire after next season or resign for super cheap. I like the idea of bringing up Bolduc in 2023-24 to play with ROR and Saad
- Scandella is moved at TDL or the following offseason. I have a strong feeling he stays AT LEAST one more season. Given that Scotty P will sign for cheap and rotate in and out of the lineup with Scandella and Bortuzzo. Blues are smart about playing defensive pairings in a certain way, so I imagine they use Perunovich, Scandella and Bortuzzo properly
- A Scandella package in my eyes is Scandella, Kostin and a 4th to Anaheim for Jacob Larsson (2 year x $762.5k extension). But this scenario keeps Scandella, which I think is more realistic
- Also factor in Neighbours ELC slide goes to $835,833 for the next 3 seasons, which is why he is in LTIR and a created player

Trades
STL
  1. Hague, Nicolas [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Vegas gets a 60+ point scorer in Barbashev who can play a lot of minutes in all facets of the game. Barbashev could extend with Vegas for a long-term deal. I’d say Barbashev maxes at $5.25M AAV for 8 years (comparable to Joel Eriksson Ek from MIN). Mikkola slots into the defensive depth, he’s played with Parayko this season and could play with Alex on the second pairing. Meeks proves to be important to this deal giving Vegas an opportunity to have a little more flexibility with salary cap
VGK
  1. Barbashev, Ivan
  2. Mikkola, Niko [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Hague is a big body shut down Dman that would fit well into the St. Louis lineup alongside Parayko. Blues sign Hague to a 3 year $3.15M AAV contract, which expires as a RFA. The 3rd offsets the value of the deal since Vegas is receiving a Top 6 LW and a strong defenseman in return for Hague and the draft pick.

I’m not a VGK fan so I could be off base but I’m pretty sure Hague is very much so not a shutdown guy lol

I like the Vegas trade, but I do have questions on whether or not it would make sense for Vegas's cap situation. They would be way over the cape after this trade, in my mind this would be perfect if they trade Dadonov out and maybe someone else. They have some interesting decisions to make this offseason. For the Blues though, I quite like it and think this all makes sense.

I did it from Vegas’ side too and it seems moving out Dadonov like you said and Martinez too

My guess is Perunovich, Barbashev, draft pick?

If Chiarot got a first and a fourth, at least the equivalent of two first round picks. Way more than I assume STL would pay and there is absolutely zero reason the caps would be looking to move him
