Overhaul

Created by: Pensfan89
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 13, 2022
Published: Apr. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dumo to the kings just makes sense. They need a veteran top pair defensive defenseman short term and probably fits their style more. Pens get more physical.

Zucker to any contender 50% retained. He’d be a solid add for 2.75 million to any contender. I saw a blues acgm with Barbashev for MP. They need a young second pair LHD and pens could use a cheaper top 9 winger.

Detroit trades a prospect that probably doesn’t have room to come up for one that’s already ready that will no longer have the pressure. Could be a cheap resurrection project. Pens get a prospect that brings a combo of physicality and skill.

Since Heinen seems to be in Sully’s doghouse. Trade him for a pick and let OConnor, Zohorna, Nylander get their chances.

Pens keep some of their core but lose Malkin. I believe Malkin is the least important piece to keep.
Rakell has been great since coming here and brings physicality and skill, seems to have great chemistry with Sid.
Bringing rust back is huge due to his ability to play up and down the lineup and also having chemistry with Sid.
Trochek again brings that grit and skill combo that they need.
Lyubushkin is amazing defensively and brings physicality they need on the blue line to go with Friedman’s pest like ability.
Beaulieu is a solid 7/8 d that brings physicality into the lineup when injuries occur.
Fleury gives Sully a trusted vet backup that can take the reigns if Jarry struggles and can also take the load off Jarry getting more games than DeSmith or most others would be able to play.

Gunna keep it a stack with you.
Zuckers value as a rental is greatly diminished by the fact he cant seem to stay healthy,

Sure but it’s at less than 3 million and he went from getting a 1st plus good prospect to a 3rd. Honestly the pick doesn’t really matter anyway.

Hard pass from Detroit. I don't want Kapanen for free, let alone giving up a prospect, even an average prospect.

Maybe I’m out of the loop, but why is every Pens fan trying to move on from Zucker?

I would do the Kapanen to Detroit deal.

He's a good fit, with very good defensive numbers (more takeaways than giveaways etc.) and he's a right handed shot which we're short of. Kasperi also has better numbers overall than Fabbri does even if he doesn't rebound which I think he's likely to.

The only drawback I can see to that deal is that he isn't bringing Pettersson with him, fix that.

The Blues would not even consider that if they could afford it, which they cannot.

He's a cap casualty. He's been good when hes in the lineup but injuries have made him expendable since the Pens have won without him. Clearing his cap hit would guarantee Rust re-signing.

I thought it was kind of weird tbh when I saw it on a blues ACGM but didn’t see too many have negative reviews of the trade. So figured maybe it was close. This was with the idea that they traded Scandella and a 4th to Detroit for a 4th. So it would be with the idea the at they traded scandella.

What about a 3 team trade between pens, blues, and wings?
Pens get Barbashev and Grewe, Blues get Pettersson and a pens 4th, wings get Kapanen and Scandella?

Pens get a top 9 scoring winger and prospect, blues get the young top 4 d long term to pair with Parayko and get out of Scandella, wings get Kapanen and Scandella to play a top 4 spot until their LD prospects are closer to ready?

Pettersson is not worth his contract, and he's not worth Barbashev, either. Hard pass from me.

I'm not against it per se but we do need both a LD to take care of our PP2 as well as a rock solid LD to pair with Hronek and help him with the defensive side of the job. Pettersson would be perfect to help Hronek out with his puck control and passing giving Filip someone to pass to instead of giving the puck away like he does all to often today. There are several good options for the PP2 job (Scandella, Schmidt, Martinez + a few in FA) but there's not really anyone other than Marcus for the Hronek job.

That's why I'm insisting on Marcus going to Detroit.

If you'll consider it I'd take Pettersson+Matheson+Kapanen off your hands for the right price.

Depending on what Detroit would be willing to give up, I wouldn’t mind switching it to just have Mp and Kapanen go to Detroit and cut St. louis trade completely.

Grewe + a 3rd for the pair of them was just suggested by another PIT-fan. I'd happily do that.
If you need a LD still waiver exempt there's McIsaac as an alternative. He's going to be crowded out here with all the prospects we have.

He's emotionally attached to every player on the Blues and think they're worth max value. He blocked me a long time ago.
