Looks like a fair deal. Montreal gets a scoring winger, Pens get Dman. Salary equal, and you can still get rid of Scuds salary (almost)

Kunitz does have a no trade clause I believe so he would have to waive it but solid trade

Kunitz wouldn't block a trade to a contender like MTL. That said, would Montreal want to take on an aging winger making close to four million for a middling prospect in Uher and a slight upgrade later in a draft? It's a pretty good trade in terms of value, but I just don't see any interest from MTL.

Getting paid too much to underachieve.
I would much rather make cap room (by the same method for example --> trading Kunitz if Scuds is untradeable) and then sign Franson for a similar cap hit. http://public.tableau.com/shared/F2HQC3TGG?:display_count=yes http://public.tableau.com/shared/QB4PD3JKH?:display_count=yes
Emelin is awful possession wise while playing Top4 minutes while Franson has been nothing short of great in the same time span while playing fewer minutes.
Additionally, Franson fits the Pens' system being a solid puckmover with an eye for the net while still offering a pretty large frame to stop opponents from getting past him.

Forget about Emelin, think about Franson.
