I think you may have that Leafs bias. Ducks fans will see this and say they don't want our scraps, lol.

It may be an overpayment, but that's what it would take (at least for a start) for the Ducks to let go of Manson. They are really high on him and would ask for an overpayment to get a deal done.

Leipsic and Johnson are questionable NHLers. Ducks would like NHLers or near ready NHLers who are protection exempt. Leafs apparently have "excess" forwards and LHD prospects. Ducks will be getting offers for their fourth Dman.
Hyman and Dermott and second rounder for Manson.

I've seen other people offer Dermott as part of deals for other ducks Dmen, but I don't think they would be greatly interested. They already have 3 young, good LHD in Lindholm, Theordore, and Larsson (assuming they lose Fowler). And I'm not sure really what kind of player Hyman is. From what I've heard people want him off Matthews' line because they think Matthews is propping him up. So I personally think this is a step backwards from the first proposition.

ARIK7700. I'm not a Leaf fan but see them often. Yea Hyman lacks the hands to be an elite forward. The Leafs have shown great puck retrieval skills, led by Hyman. Maybe he shouldn't be a first liner but for the next five years you could put up and the down any line and kill penalties and get total effort and value from Hyman. Not saying he can get you Manson, but his presence on the Leaf team should be not underestimated.
If JVR had replaced Hyman on the Matthews/Nylander line....well would comes first? JVR's better hands or the fact that Hyman can disrupt a defence, and get the puck to Matthews and Nylander?

I'd be willing to bet a fairly large sum of money that we'll see a Fowler extension this summer. He's already said that he wants to stay (It's SoCal...who wouldn't want to stay?). If not, it'll be interesting to see how long they hold onto him.

Every team has guys like Hyman. Not saying that he's not a good player, just not nearly as valuable as you seem to think he is.

originalsix. Then he sounds like someone Bob Murray would like on the team, but he would then ask for quite a bit more because the ducks already have a bunch of players that can fight against the boards and come away with the puck. So they would be looking for someone who could score and probably have better hands than Hyman

I've heard that, so it just reaffirms the position that the ducks wouldn't want another Dman in a trade

If they don't think a deal could get done then there is a good chance he's the guy they trade before the expansion draft. I think they want to keep him and prefer to trade Vatanen, but it's all so far up in the air it is hard to tell.

Guys, you do realize that the ducks are in the worst place in the league because of the expansion right? They have 5d and 5f that need to be protected, they need to get rid of at least 2 good players. Manson will not be a duck after the expansion and they are going to accept either fair value or an underpayment

I'm assuming the 5d you're talking about is Lindholm, Vatanen, Bieksa, Manson, and Fowler. It's already reported that Bieksa said he'd wave his NMC for the draft, so they only need to trade one. And I've always been of the position that they want to trade Vatanen because he'd get the best value, whatever that is. They are too high on Manson to accept less than an overpayment and they're kinda low on Vatanen so that's who I think will be gone

Exactly, they also have a slew of offensive minded Dmen on the way in Theodore, Montour and Larsson, but no Manson types. It makes way more sense to deal Vatanen.

Worst place? Or best place? Because I would think that at least 25 other NHL teams would love to have the depth that the Ducks have. Yes, they're going to lose a good player. One. One player. They're going to lose ONE player in the expansion draft. It's a given. It's OK. I'm sure Bob Murray has probably made peace with it at this point. That doesn't mean he's going to give someone else away for nothing.
