Give it to them. Send Robertson and a 1st for Klingberg at 50% hell add another B prospect and Ritchie and then they don't have to retain. Klingberg would be a sick add.

Klingberg is a pretty strict offensive D, no? Last I checked, Toronto doesn't need more offence.

No problem adding Klingberg for a run at it. It's just going to take more.

Robertson, Dermott, 1st rounder, is likely a decent starting point. Would think they'd rather retain salary for 40 games then pay Ritchie for 120.

Klingberg isn't a good fit; he's like Tyson Barrie, an offense first defenceman, and he wants a crazy amount on his next contract so he'd be a 1 year rental.

Not accurate. He's a transition puck possession defenceman playing in a system that does nothing for his strengths and exemplifies his weaknesses. He's similar to Rielly but likely not as well rounded. However, in TO's puck possession system paired with Muzzin, it would certainly work well. He's Tailor Made for Keefe's system.

No to Klingberg, he has struggled WAY to much this year to warrant the type of return Dallas is expecting for him. No thx

Not at all true, Barrie is a forward playing defence, has no clue what to do in his own end. Klingberg is more like Rielly, terrific at moving the puck up ice and pretty good defensively as well. He's not as good as Rielly but he's absolutely an upgrade over Holl. You get him and then move Holl down to the 3rd pair. Then you have Dermott and Liljegren as the 7/8 defenceman in the playoffs and you can weather any storm.

It's a system thing. He plays on an all defence system on a team with little speed, it makes everything he's good at go to waste and that is why he's struggling. He's a round peg in a square hole system in Dallas. He'd be sick in TO.

Chiarot sucks, he's been utter garbage this year, can't defend worth anything.

This has Nick Foligno vibes all over again if the playoffs don’t go well. Why would you want that? I'll agree a better fit for Muzzin is a RD who can carry the puck out of the zone and plays some D. But Miller, Schenn, Stecher, Severson, Peeke. Ill gladly keep Muzzin and Holl together and get a heavy RD to play with Sandin.

Edit:
Klingberg would be limited to top-four minutes and none on the special teams (Rielly PP1 / Sandin PP2) he plays no PK. The Leafs should be going after a top-four defenceman who can help Muzzin but also provide an additional boost to the penalty kill. This is like getting Barrie all over again.

That is what Hab fans are saying right now because they want a major haul yup. According to those guys, Chiarot was the only reason they got to the cup final and it's everyone elses fault they are the worst team in the league this season.

Hardly, Barrie had never been good at 5v5 in his zone. Klingberg was really good both ways until the current only play defence system was put in place in Dallas. He would fit TO's system like a glove. Also he would absolutely take the PP2 spot away from Sandin. It's not like Sandin has blown the doors off on the PP

ben chiarot played a role in the playoff run, sure. that was a cinderella run that required every single player on that team to buy in and play a role. everyone but dominique ducharme played a role. Chiarot got to play with weber and they were good together - it's become quite apparent that while he looked good on the eye test, he was carried by shea, the whole team was.

do I think ben chiarot is a dog **** defenceman who doesn't deserve to be in the NHL? Not at all. Do I think he's a top 4 guy who deserves a first round pick? absolutely not. hab fans overvalue their players by miles, Leaf fans hate them exponentially. we'll all just keyboard warriors passing the time
