If Montreal trades Petry, even though it’s a bad contract, there has to be some sort of value on the return. This is their leader. Barrie is negative value. Especially to Montreal.

As I said in the description, this is just the basic framework/discussion about swapping these players, not the final actualized deal. Obviously there'd be more to this. Please read it next time.

Being the leader of the Habs right now is like being the captain of the Titanic. I don't see that adding value, but I could be wrong. Adding the age 35, 36 and 37 seasons of a player who is currently having the worst season of his career, and has a $6.25 mil cap hit for the next 3 years seems like a dangerous, foolish thing to do.

That being said, people do dumb things every day...

We know Petry will be moved in the near-mid future to an American team. Now that this is set, without talking about values and how much he's worth or not, which American team would realistically need a top 4 RD? Knowing he's likely a 3 year rental that won't be re-signed I'll assume it's a team in a win-now mentality.
Just trying to narrow out the guesses of who would be in the hunt.

Petry wants to be in the States. Any Canadian team is a non starter, he has a NMC

Couldn’t agree with you more. I hate the Habs. But I see no reason for them to trade Petry without a return that fits. If it’s a negative asset like Barrie they are better off keeping him.

Your description hardly stated that at all. I do happen to be one of the rarity’s on this site that reads descriptions. So chill out man.
